Thanks to my club in Malaysia KL Saracens formerly know as Bintang I’ve been given the opportunities to learn the game and fall deeper in love with the sport and what it represents. A couple months post-surgery an opportunity to go to the Inside Running Acdemy in NZ came in the form of an email advertsing scholarships. At first I didn’t think much of it and thought I didn’t stand a chance as they receive hundreds of applicants every year. But one night on the bus coming back from the gym, the evening before the deadline for applications I thought to myself if I didn’t atleast try I’ll probably never know. I put together my Rugby CV and a couple of clips of me playing and sent them off. KL Saracens has a strong relationship with the Inside Running Academy and it so happened some of their coaches were coming over from NZ to conduct training sessions in Malaysia. Despite the influx of talent from across the world, Samoans and Tongans have begun to dominate football with superior speed and strength that allows them to play outside the boundaries of past players at their size. The film shows every aspect of the process from the players entering high school to being scouted by college and professional scouts as they capture four years of the four young men’s careers. The fact that the film puts so much emphasis on the process shows the importance of it for the players as well as their families. On February 28, 2005, I experienced one of the most exciting events that anyone could ever experience – winning a State Championship. The day my soccer team made history is a day I’ll never forget. However it is not just that day we won the title, but the whole experience of the preceding season that got us there. From start to finish, my team’s 2004-2005 season taught me that the platitude is true. You can do anything you set your mind to.
GOING OUT OF BUSINESS Sports Authority was a sporting goods franchise with over 500 locations nationwide. Sports authority is based out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and the initial purpose of the "The Sports Authority" was to bring the same idea from what megastores such as Toys R Us and Home Depot were doing and bring it to the sporting goods industry. Jack Smith was unsuccessful in his first attempt, but soon after in 1990 he got a second chance and was running eight megastores in the greater Florida area. Smith's confidence and immediate success landed him a buyer from the Kmart Corporation for $75 Million in march of that same year. In the four years following The Sports Authority grew to 100 stores nationwide.
This past weekend, I had the marvelous chance to participate in the Division 4 Soccer Provincials. My team was by far not the strongest team at the tournament, however our determination to win the gold and come back with a banner was stronger than all of the other teams combined. We may not have had the best individual players, however we did not back down even until the final minute of every game. Our chemistry as a team was amazing, and it has taught me that you do not need perfect team members to achieve greatness - only drive.

I have always set big goals, and had even bigger dreams. However, these dreams aren’t like those of some of my classmates such as becoming a movie star or a famous soccer player, but ones of curing cancer and providing the world with answers to scientific phenomena. Should the Gatton Academy provide me the chance to take the next step toward fulfilling these dreams, very little would prevent me from attending.
After four years of a new team every season, I went into my first practice of my fifth soccer season expecting the same to be true. Play on this team for one year and then be randomly placed on a different one the following year. Little did I know this team, especially the coaches, would leave a lasting impact on my life. I gained an invaluable support system that has stuck by my side for an upwards of nine years.

During the past summer I went to a camp on Oahu called, G.P.A. 2016 Football Showcase. It was a first time at the position I chose, cornerback. From the early ages in history to the present day, sports have always been an important part of society. It teaches discipline, how to be a team player, how to interact with others and is a good source of physical activity. In specific, football utilizes all of these aspects of sports and it’s a great source of teaching self-restraint and perseverance. Some may say that football is a violent sport or it’s not beneficial in any way, but in reality it gives a person the basic tools needed not only for playing the game, but also how you interact with people in society.

With each passing civilization and the era it’s [its] people lived in, one can find a great deal about the times by examining an area that is not often thought of. That area is in regards to sports. The ancient Mayans had arenas, the Greeks helped initiate the Olympics, and the Romans had bloody matches between gladiators in the Colosseum. These sports and games often reveal to us what was occurring outside the playing field and arenas, into the political arenas and clashes between the classes. Examining the history of rugby throughout Europe, particularly in Great Britain, allows one the opportunity to see how the changes throughout society’s values, norms, and principles are mirrored by the evolution of the game of rugby from the mid-nineteenth century up to World War I.
