In this paper, I argue that animal testing is necessary in the development of new medicine and medical procedures. Animal testing has been paramount in medical discoveries throughout the last one hundred years. Without it, many surgical procedures and medicines would not be available to us because using them untested would put human life at risk. Opposition to animal testing may say that the testing used on animals does more harm than good, but most scientists do not warrant research that is particularly harmful to animals if the use of animals is even necessary (Festing & Wilkinson 2007). Animal test is not wrong because it is the only way to keep ahead in the arms race against disease. Disease keep changing and evolving so scientist must keep researching and making stronger, more potent medicines to combat them. Thus we must use living creatures as test subject for the medicines.
