The animated movie 101 Dalmatians, based on Dodie Smith’s ‘The Hundred and One Dalmatians’, produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, is considered to have saved Disney back in 1961 after so much time and money went into Sleeping Beauty which turned out to be a disaster, doing poorly in the box office and having put six million into the animation it was a huge let down for Walt Disney and the animators that worked on it. After Sleeping Beauty was released Walt Disney Animation Studios was in dire need to create something that would save them or it would be the end of Disney’s animation department altogether as they could not financially sustain, so with their very small budget of four million they were able to create the highest grossing film …show more content…
As mentioned before there was talk of the Walt Disney Animation Studios shutting down due to Sleeping Beauty doing badly that they could not financially sustain the animation department but Walt Disney was not willing to give up, so he talked Dodie Smith into allowing them to base an animation on her book ‘The Hundred and One Dalmatians’ and passed it on to his animation department to work on it. Walt Disney was not an active part in 101 Dalmatians due to Disney Land taking off as well as the live action movies and unfortunately becoming ill, so he left it up to the lead animator and story man Bill

A Comparison of the Animated Films Shrek and Snow White 1937. Two years before the start of World War Two. Technology wasn't even starting to advance when they made the first animated feature film, Snow White. It cost 1.4 million dollars which today is a lot of money. The film was made by a company called "Disney" and it took over 750 artists to work on it.

Walt Disney began in 1923 with a short film called Alice’s Wonderland. It was co-owned by Walt Disney and his brother Roy Disney. Disney moved forward into the future with very popular filmed entertainment such as Mickey Mouse, Snow White, Pinocchio, Dumbo, Bambi and so many more until the death of Walt Disney in 1966. Walt Disney was then successfully supervised by Walt’s older brother, Roy Disney, until his death in 1971 after the completion of his brother’s dream, Walt Disney World. It was in 1983 that Disney expanded its operations to include the Disney Channel and the Touchstone Pictures film label. When the new president and CEO, Michael Eisner and Frank Wells, came onto the scene they set out to maximize the company’s assets by opening its famous movies up to the TV syndication market and video cassettes. With the classics easily accessible and available at a lower cost the company grew to greater heights. The success continued in 1988 when Disney movies hit new box office heights bringing in more than $100 million. Then between the years of 1989 to 1994 chart toppers like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and the Lion King launched the entertainment company to even greater heights. Ever since Mickey Mouse was created in 1928, Disney has been at the forefront of the cartoon world. Every youngster has a favorite Disney character or movie. Over the years they have created some of the best movies of all time. However, Walt Disney hasn’t always been successful. He survived bankruptcy in 1922 and had to rethink how he was going to approach his life. I think it is safe to say the approach he took was the right one. One of his first productions was an animated short film Alice’s Wonderland, which turned into what we know as Alice in Wonderland. Mr. Disney’s first attempt at a feature-length animated film debuted in 1937 after three years of production. His masterpiece of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is one of his most awarded movies. Following World War II Disney Production was in a substantial amount of debt. They needed to come out with a new movie that would win over the public of America. They came out with just the right movie, Cinderella, in 1950. This was their biggest hit since Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs some 15 years ago. Because of Cinderella Disney Productions stayed in business and could go on to produce many more heartwarming movies.

His wife, Lilly was unable to wake him up one morning and she called the doctor who prescribed a long trip for rest and relaxation. Walt wanted each of the dwarfs in “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” to be a distinct individual. The solution was to create names for them that would reflect their personalities. (Miller NP) "Snow White," which took three years to make, was released in 1937. This was the beginning to what we all know today as Disney movies.

Walt Disney Films are known to be as an incredible and outstanding fantasy stories producer. It created more than a hundred of films. Majority of what has been produced rely on fictional stories.
