My favorite song is “Two Birds” by Regina Spektor. I chose this song because of the great sentimental value it holds for me. My dad used to play a lot of Regina Spektor’s music when I was a kid, so much so that whenever I think of my childhood years I can’t help but think of her music.
He played Regina’s music whenever and wherever he wanted; on car trips going to visit my grandparents, around the house while he was cooking or working, sometimes he would sit in the living room and just listen to her music. There was always some kind of music filling the empty silences in our house and I’ve always loved hearing that. Her music is so beautiful and powerful, I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of listening to it. But out of all of her music, “Two
Barbara Shreisand and Celine Dion, which are two of the most popular singers of all time, decided to join forces back in 1997 to sing one of the most beautiful duets of all time. They sang a song called "Tell Him." They showed the world how talented they were by singing that song.
Stargirl was another fantastic book Jerry Spinelli. He added interesting characters, such as, Leo the quiet and shy one, Stargirl unique and fun one, Dori Dilson Stargirl only friend, Archie the wise and elderly one, Kevin Leo’s friend that likes the stoplight, and Hillari Kimble the popular bratty one. This book takes place in MICA, Arizona. Now, in paragraph one I will discuss the plot of Stargirl. Next, I will talk about the theme in Stargirl. Finally, I will evaluate Jerry Spinelli`s job on the novel Stargirl.
After a careful overview of these two texts, Red Scarf Girl, and “How to listen #3” (102) from Brown Girl Dreaming, a deplorable tone shows up. Both texts are about different people and different events. Yet both of them create the same tone.
Being the most successful female songwriter of the latter half of the 20th century, Carole King was one of the greatest and most successful songwriters the music world has seen. King wrote an astounding twenty-five solo albums over her career and wrote and co-wrote a phenomenal 118 pop hits that made the Billboard Hot 100. Her contribution to music was enormous and has been recognised globally with an extensive list of awards and achievements to her name. Carole’s writing is honest and her song writing is reflective of the events she went through in her life and the raw feelings she felt, making it so relatable for her listeners. Aside from the limelight, her own personal life which she hid as much as possible, is as interesting as her songs.
Nothing is off limits when it comes to the work of British artist, Tracey Emin. Multitalented and well versed in an array of mediums; including painting, photography, video, drawing, installation, embroidery, and sculpture Emin reveals dramatic and shocking intimate histories. Tracey uses symbolic and literal representations of intimate experiences embedded with trauma, violence, sex, and dysfunction to create a spectacle of private moments. Through the exploration of self and past experiences her work is considered to be confessional; offering a cathartic method of expression for the artist. Emin’s serious and uncensored portrayal of her life highlights the notion that art and life are intertwined. She explains this by saying, “my world is
Using the murder of Dee Ann’s mother as a means to intertwine the lives of the characters together, Steve Yarbrough examines the nature of relationships in “The Rest of Her Life.” The relationships in the story take a turn after Dee Ann’s mother is killed, with characters seeking to act more on their own, creating distance between many relationships throughout the story. Independent lifestyles prevent emotional bonds that hold relationships together from forming, thus preventing the characters from maintaining healthy relationships. The dysfunctional relationship present between Dee Ann and Chuckie in “The Rest of Her Life” is the result of the characters ' desire for self-gratification.
The song I have chosen is Shadow Of The Day by, Linkin Park. Many people when they hear this song it has a dark or sad feel to it, obviously, it says "the shadow of the day will embrace the world in gray and the sun will set for you." The song talks about death and how every day ends, but to me, I hear never waste a day living. We don't live forever, so once you are gone you are just another memory so make the best out of every
Kesha Rose Sebert, professionally known as Ke$ha, has lived a long, rough life. In 2005, she signed a contract with producer Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald, and ever since this, she has been living inside a personal hell. Kesha has been searching for help for years, but no one believed her when she first explained how Dr. Luke made sexual advances towards her. After fighting this legal battle for years, she released her song “Praying” in 2017, but the song first became popular after her emotional performance at the 60th Grammy Awards where she was joined by many other performers, including Cyndi Lauper. The song told a heart-wrenching story of sadness, hurt, and despair. However, this song also tells the story of a beautiful woman who, with time, learned that her self-worth was much more than others made it out to be. Kesha displays the characteristics of a strong woman
The story of Amanda Berry’s capture and imprisonment by Ariel Castro left the world in shock. Berry’s unthinkable experience forever changed her outlook on life. A song that I like is called, “Am I Wrong” by, Nico and Vinz. I first listened to the song in my family's car. My sister had control over the radio that day, and sooner or later, the song came up. I instantly liked the song as soon as the chorus started, but at the time it was just because of the rhythm. Overtime I learned the lyrics and I loved the song even more.
I chose Roar, by Katy Perry because it explained the pressure on her. In this song, Katy Perry is let down and pushed back. She stays quiet and doesn’t fight for what she deserves
Out of many songs my favorite song is Yakety Yak by The Coasters I listen to this song all the time. I love it because it has lyrics that sound like something I would do. Although Byron makes fun of me for listening to the song so much. I also showed it to Rufus but he didn't like it but I hope you like it.
The music video “Dark Horse” by Katy Perry portrays an Egyptian Queen searching for her love. The video takes place in a modernized version of Memphis, Egypt a crazy long time ago. It successfully combines Hip-Hop culture and Ancient Egyptian culture. Kings from a variety of places across the world come confidently to make the Queen their “one and only” true love. A far-reaching line of men bearing gifts await their judgement whether they are truly hers or not and meet their doom. In “Dark Horse” by Katy Perry the video takes the perspective of the mate less Queen, uses descriptive diction from the lyrics of the song, and symbolic imagery to convey the message that men are to beware of a powerful woman.
Regina Maywack lived just down the road from me. Before 5th grade I never knew who she was. As the year progressed we got closer and closer. Regina was extremely talented. She was, in my mind, a genius; she loved school and always did well. She was also blessed with athletic ability. Something I respected since most other kids we knew weren't involved in sports. No matter what day it was I always went to school knowing that Regina would be there with a smile on her face. It seemed as though she didn't have a care in the world. There were days I would show up mad at something my parents had done, or at something that hadn't gone my way, and she would just look at me with those honest eyes and tell me to be thankful for the good things.
