Growing up and being raised by a single mother who used to work multiple jobs and always striving and striving to provide the bare essentials and necessities that were needed for her children to get by. I experienced and seen first hand exactly how hard life can be at times while watching my mother work as hard as she could to try and give her children the best that she was able to. It was always instilled into me at a young age that I need to do my best in school by studying and working as hard as I can so I could attend college and earn a degree to make a fulfilling and satisfying career for myself when I grew up, and so I wouldn’t have to work multiple jobs for minimum wage just to scrape by. Proper values, morality, and religion are things that were always taught to me and that always made me work hard to try and live up to. The expectations and examples that were shown to me throughout my life were the things that would set me on track to have a successful future. After finishing high school, I felt like college was something that was expected of me so I enrolled and attended my first year that Fall. Meeting new people, making new friends, being away from home and on my own, and attending parties was something that didn’t take long for me to get caught up in. I was raised in an encouraging household where both of my parents greatly valued education. Although they were high school graduates, neither could afford to attend college; a combination of family and financial woes ultimately halted their path. As a result, my parents frequently reminded me that getting a good education meant better opportunities for my future. To my parents, that seemed to be the overarching goal: a better life for me than the one they had. My parents wanted me to excel and supported me financially and emotionally of which the former was something their parents were not able to provide. When I would get out of school and on weekends, my father would pick me up to go help him work. During summer even working up to 30hours. All the money I would make in tips from working would go towards my family. In life, a person experiences different types of situations that bring forth certain emotions and behaviors. Oftentimes, it benefits people if they try to look inside themselves to discover why they act a certain way during various moments of their lives. In this essay, I will be investigating my own reactions to life events and discovering certain positive elements that should be encouraged or any negative aspects of my behavior that need to be changed.
I will never forget my fifth birthday. It was a time of great sadness. It was in 1932 when thousands had lost their homes because they could not pay their mortgages. That year alone, some 25, 000 families and more than 200,000 young people wandered through the country seeking food, shelter, and clothing. My family was such a family. We were homeless and father was jobless. Father told us that we were traveling from place to place looking for 'the way.' We obtained food from welfare agencies or religious missions in towns along the way. Most of our meals, when we were lucky enough to have one, consisted of soup, beans, or stew and precious little of that. My oldest brother Mikey sometimes would find food in garbage cans from behind places in the towns we traveled through. I was so young then that I never knew where the food came from, and I remember how thankful Father and Mother were that our family had anything at all. I remember that Father always said the same little prayer before we would eat, but there never seemed to be enough to go around.
I was also taught that family is extremely important and the time spent with them should be cherished. This mindset is still a part of me today and part of the reason I am in college now. My parents grew up in an age where nice belongings were difficult to come by. The mindset that putting your best effort into everything you do helped them both get into college and obtain successful jobs afterward.
Personal life: Anxiety can occur as a result of environmental factors like trauma it may be due to abuse, stress, family problem, i.e. if I am unable to manage my anxiety it will affect my personal life.
Life Lesson As an underclassman you come into high school either thinking that the next four years of your schooling will be really easy or really stressful. To tell the truth, it can be both, whether you come into high school with a positive or negative attitude. High school is the last place you can get away with some mistakes and try again. The next four years will test your skills and responsibilities.
During my work experience at , I was fortunate enough to have experienced firsthand and learned, many different sides of what goes into a project, the general process of how a project is initially planned, developed and completed; as well as how much work and detail goes into every stage. Another valuable lesson I have learned during these 12 weeks, were the many different types of work an Engineer has to perform, which in turn, have provided me with more insight into the different types of roles and responsibilities that I could perform, as a Civil Engineer.
I quickly learned at a very young age the value of hard work. Both of my parents had worked hard to achieve their dreams of a nice home, cars, and financial stability. Their working hard not only paid off financially, but they taught my two brothers and I, that working hard was imperative to life. I was given a set of chores and an allowance every week, which taught me responsibility and how to manage money. I also realized that cooperation goes hand in hand with hard work. My brothers and I would help each other with our chores from time to time. I did not know that cooperation works on a larger scale in the workplace, that sometimes one needs help to achieve their ultimate goal.
