Words alone can be immensely impactful. However what seperates a good leader from an excellent leader is their ability to carry out their plans. The activities I have been involved in directly reflect my passions—from participating in speech and debate competitions to founding the first girls soccer team in my town—these experiences have shaped me into a well rounded individual who has what it takes to become a Civil Rights Attorney.

For as long as I can remember debating has been prominent in my life full of oppression and constant discrimination. I first decided to join the Speech and Debate club at my school because I saw it as an opportunity to further develop my ability to craft strong arguments. My urge to play drove me to the founding of the first girls soccer team in my town. There were many other girls like myself who needed a safe place to share their worries. Personally, I found comfort in playing soccer, and I thought other girls would also benefit from playing. That is why i picked up a stack of applications at the league closest to the town, gave them out to the girls who looked like they might benefit from being part of a team, placed flyers all over the neighborhood, and searched for a coach to train the team. Many of the girls were beginners, but the strenght of our team did not stem from the experience the girls had but from the strong unity we were able to form. Such unity allowed the team to transform a simple sport into a support group. Hearing the stories the girls had to share was extremely hard due to the heavy topics discussed. Some were single teen mothers, others were drug addicts, a few were in foster homes, and some like myself had to raise their sibilings because their parents were ill. Even though it was challenging hearing adversity stories knowing that we now had a team to count on made the struggle a lot more bearable. What makes me the proud the most is that even though I have left town to attend UCLA the team I created still
