As I searched the address of my home, I encountered several crime reports that I was unaware of. It is shocking to see how many crimes have been committed in less than a year. Not only am I surprise by the amount of crimes, but by the fact that they are so close to home. It is crazy how only some areas are shown in the news, but how come I never heard of crimes around my neighborhood. It is obvious to see how crimes are only shown in the news when they are in a violent area such as the city of Baltimore. However, in the last couple months I have heard of Glen Burnie mentioned in the news about crimes that have been reported which is very sad to hear because soon the reputation of Glen Burnie will be ruined, and no one is going to want to move here anymore.
Generally, searching up my address had me feeling anxious. While the results were loading, I was not expecting anything to show up knowing how calm I thought this area was. As soon as I saw all of the crime icons on the map, I was left speechless. The icons that popped up in the map were crimes of theft, assault, burglary, and vandalism. The crimes that were around my neighborhood were theft, assault, and burglary. The crime of theft was high in Glen Burnie, including the area around my neighborhood. Even though this was not a karate class, I gained plenty of strategies from our class to maintain my personal safety. I am usually the type of person who is calm and kind to others, but if it comes to the moment that I have to defend myself, I will. When I go out to places I am never alone.
