New and Valuable Reminders of Organizational Behavior Learning
The organizations which we work for and belong to, are highly adaptive and ever evolving by their design and nature, with profits from production and service driving innovation over competitors. These organisms thrive on the collective learning and knowledge of; recent and distance successes and mistakes both within and external to the organization. All of which serves as points of learning that provide lesson to be distilled and applied accordingly. The crux to this collective experiential learning, and change for the better, is the feedback-loop. This is because it has such vast and seemingly lasting positive effects on individual and collective performance at work; as well as on overall efficiency and productivity of the work force and the organization at large. In simplest terms this is classic dilemma of the carrot or the stick. Wherein, here we are focused on the stick portion of the alternatives available. The point is that all persons are for the most part more easily and effectively inspired and motivated to perform and achieve when compelled by greater and lasting rewards that they are by fear of punishment and pain. Because while the motivation of fear and pain have their place and purpose, the indirect results of their looming over us is counter product. The side effects of fear and anxiety are truly debilitating over time. While the desire for recognition and reward serve to inspire and compel proper and effective thought and actions, which are not centered on fear and anxiety and do not serve to manifest the same inhibitors to sustained performance, they do not create debilitation and impotence over time. But, instead generate completion and excellence. Simply put by applying positive reinforcement in a timely manner to those behavior and performance desired most, collective learning encourages and ensures more likewise behaviors as all strive in turn to
