Being able to speak in public will be essential for students to success. The ability to communicate is just as important as the technical skills we learn for whatever job we desire to do. Speech class will increase our ability to communicate with other human beings. For our second presentation, the class was divided into four groups. Each group was given a theme to present about in front of the class. The first group talked about the challenges facing our environment. The second group’s theme was education. The third group talked about hunger. The fourth group’s theme was prejudice. In addition, each group talked about its service learning projected which was connected to the theme they had. The theme was very interesting. We talked about different types of prejudice such as racism, sexism, and ageism. We also talked about a controversial subject nowadays that is the prejudice against police. Our group consisted of seven students, so it was a great idea to divide the work between the group members. Each one of us was responsible of presenting a specific type of prejudice. We first summarized the information in brief points. We then made Prezi slides with those points of each type. We made a good use of technology by showing videos that relate to each subject. We also used pictures and cartoons to help understand the subject. The audience was alert which made it easier to speak, because there were not any distractions in the classroom from people not paying attention. I think we performed better than the first presentation because the microphone was working. For our service-learning project, we went to Hialeah High School and presented the subject to a ninth grader class there. It was a great experience seeing the students learning about the subject.
