According to the article, RAINN, every 1 in 10 men are victims of rape and 1 in 6 women are victims. When will this stop and what is the cause of rape anyways? Rape is one of the many reasons men and women go into hiding. The society fails to sympathize with the victims, instead then humiliate them. Rape is not a justified action in any form. The issues we have are the belief that women ask for it by wearing provocative clothing and drinking, along with the belief women are far more vulnerable. Although women may wear revealing clothes and drink, it does not give a person the right to sexually assault an individual who is not cognizant of their actions. The women seem vulnerable in every situation showing every time they are in trouble they need a man to save them. Also, women are the ones shown as the rape victims in these cinemas. Portraying these women as vulnerable help this male ego form that they are the superior. The proof is given in the article, “Are You Surprised?”, with the study of men admitting they will use sexual aggression with women. Given this fact it gives the proof that men think they are better than women. Also, looking further into this male superiority, “In one study, 1 in 3 college men said that they would force someone to have sex if they could get away with it, and that has nothing to do with clothing.” (Kendall) Without a reason, they would try to attain this pleasure, only if it meant no consequences. Date rape is becoming far more common as the generation goes on, however, “nine out of ten incidents of date rape go unreported.” (RAINN) Why is this even a statistic that seems okay? The women are seen as liars and guilty, same with men, society condemns victims. There is no clear reason as to why vulnerability exists or why date rapes
