The Benefits of Raising Minimum Wage If the minimum wage is increased, will that affect our society in a negative or positive way? “The immediate benefits of a minimum-wage increase are in the boosted earnings of the lowest-paid workers, but its positive effects would far exceed this extra income” (Cooper & Hall, 2014). In our nation now a lot of lower income workers are treated unfairly. They are giving a treatment of worthlessness, and this needs to change because it affects our nation. This treatment is very unethical everyone deserves fair pay and respect because a lot of the time they are out there trying to provide for their families and themselves. Example being a 15 dollar minimum wage makes sense in the State of California where it’s expensive to live but not in a state like Michigan where it’s cheaper to live. This should be about being able to afford where we live not raising the minimum wage. Raising the minimum wage over four to five years is a good solution because it gives time to employers to adjust to the wage hike and cuts down on the possibility of job losses or job hiring freezes. Minimum wage is meant for people to become wealthy of off but I believe that minimum wage should be able to provide us with the necessary finances for a decent living. It shouldn’t be working minimum wage and taking all the government handouts possible to be able to live in good conditions, this affects our government and the people as well. This brings me to my second solution, raising minimum wage over a period of time or better put increments. This gives time to the financial institutes that back businesses and small business to be able to cope with the rise. I believe companies want their employees to be happy so raising the minimum wage would be all good but only if it doesn’t affect their business.
