Station Eleven is a novel that is about this epidemic call the Georgia flu and what life was like before and after the pandemic, and its follows this small group of actor and musician, as they navigate their new changed world.
We go through life not thinking about how we want to live our life, or what if we died the next day. We never really know when we are going to died, it’s not really in our hands, but what is in our hands is how people are going to remember us and how we live our lives. Reading Station Eleven was challenging at first to understand the concepts Mandel was trying to present. But as I actually be again to think about it not just read it because I had to, I understood it in a whole new light.
There is this quote from the book, “First we only want to be seen, but once we’re seen, that’s not enough anymore. After that, we want to be remembered” (Mandel 41). This quote has a lot of meaning to me, when I first read it I just dismissed it, but then I when back and though this is a very powerful statement that was being said. We all want to be seen in our life we need to be talk about, it’s human nature that is what I think Mendel was trying to get a by using this quote. Being a freshman in college we want be seen, but it also the fact that when I graduate I want to be remember. As humans we want to be immorality, but deep down we know we are going to die eventually, but that is what makes us human. We need to be able to see that and then, we can see that we can be remember.
