I have a major obsession with quilts and blankets. I always keep three on my bed, and the rest stay in my closet. Like most people I switch them up during different seasons and holidays. Even though I have a lot of quilts, there is one that is very special to me. It is so special, that it never gets taken off my bed unless it needs to be washed. The reason this particular quilt is so special, is because my great grandmother made it for me when I was a baby. She is no longer here, so the quilt holds a tremendous amount of sentimental value to me. Along with reminding me of her, the quilt also represents the different aspects of the women in my family. The quilt is very beautiful, with loads of colors and designs. These different patterns and colors remind me of all our vibrant and fiery personalities. It is made up of a crème bottom and a patterned top, in between the two layers there is a cotton filling. The patchwork design on the top of the quilt is what makes it so beautiful. There is a total of thirty-six squares on the top of the quilt, each square has a crème back ground. On top of each crème square there is a circle, split up like a pie; meaning they have sixteen triangle pieces in each circle. The triangles or “pie pieces” as my grandma called them, have a different designs and fabrics. The different prints range from: floral, Aztec, plaid, holiday themed, solid colors, and tropical prints. The fabrics vary from cotton, sweater material, and even chiffon. You are probably thinking they none of those go together what so ever, but I promise they do. My grandma took all my momma’s maternity clothes to make the quilt, so the different materials where for different seasons and occasions. So, in a way every pie piece represents a different stage throughout my mom’s pregnancy. In between the thirty-six squares is a mauve purple floral print, fun fact mauve happens to be my favorite
