The goals that I have set myself to accomplish this semester is to be more competent in my therapeutic practice that utilizes my theoretical orientation, being more professionally assertive, and being more knowledgeable about the approaches in adolescent substance abuse group counseling. These three objectives are an aspect in my counseling practice that need improvement and what I am determined to strengthen. The first goal is being more competent in my theoretical orientation. An orientation that I lean towards is Psychodynamic due to my fascination with how our personality is formed by our childhood experiences. How I will achieve this goal is by researching the technique, making a list of the approaches from the theory that I am interested in, and applying them to each client I counsel. At the end of the session, I will go back to that list and check off what approaches I attempted and make notes of which ones that needed enhanced. How I know that I achieved this goal is by establishing an “End of Internship” survey, that asks me questions about my feelings on each approach and how confident I feel about incorporating Psychodynamic Therapy into my counseling practice. …show more content…

Not just as a counselor, but as a person, I desire to become more assertive in my communication and social skills. Furthermore, I wish to be granted with the strength to stand up for my own and other’s rights/beliefs in a calm and professional manner. In the past, I have always been an individual people can push over and walk on. Now, I am driven to be heard and be a role model to adolescents who are fighting a battle they believe they cannot win. However, with this assertive skill, I can award them hope.
