Prostitution and Modern Slavery In Society

Individualism in society regarding prostitution and modern slavery are based largely on the point that these practices only benefit a selective amount of people. Individualism means to take your own needs into account before the needs of others, which is seen often in practices such as prostitution and slavery. In the following paragraphs, these practices are linked into the seven tendencies along with solutions to this long running issue.
Listed in the seven tendencies of individualism it states the term “I am free”. In a deeper perspective it means that as humans we are granted the right to our freedom, and no one can overrule it or take that away from us. In the practice of slavery and prostitution, that sense of freedom is taken away. Even if consent is given, these women are still giving themselves to a man and voluntarily giving away their freedom. In slavery, all freedom they once had if forcefully taken away against their will with no consent from the female. The main reason these acts are committed is for the profit gain, and the well being of the people involved is rarely taken into account. …show more content…

“I am equal” means that you are treated with the same dignity and respect as anyone else. In most practices of prostitution, these women are treated as a lesser individual than the man who assumes he is given all the power. In slavery, woman who are being sold for sex have no equality and are treated as property as opposed to human beings against their own will. In acts of slavery, women are treated with the same amount of dignity and respect as an animal, because these men see them as nothing more than a profit gain.
