The Indigenous stolen generation in Australia have been adequately recognized and compensated. Do you agree? “We apologise especially for the removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families, their communities and their country.” (Rudd, 2008). There has been a general contentment about the stolen generations after the government publically apologized. However, besides words, no solid compensation has been given to affected children and their families. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to show that although sincere words and a public apology are a huge improvement to the stolen generations, Indigenous families deserve actual compensation. Although this case is impossible for deceased members there is hope for the rest of them if the government is willing to make the effort. For instance, there are organizations that help Indigenous people who were violated by past laws to contact their relatives. The problem being more efforts are needed from these organisations. A study by ABS (2010) found out that less than 17% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who lost connections with their families used the services provided by the government to help them find and contact their relatives, while nearly 60% didn’t even know these services existed. Evidently, efforts from the government and these organisations are lacking. Monetary compensation is the only component of what would be called an adequate reparation. Other components that stolen generations need are rehabilitation and reuniting services. All these aspects of compensation are vital and will help them in their healing process. To conclude, acknowledgment and apology are only a part of the remedy, stolen generations should be provided financial compensation to represent guilt and responsibility, rehabilitation programs that address the intergeneration effects and services that help them reunite with their families and
