Schools all across the country conduct locker searches. They are used to check for illegal items and keep people safe. Some people think that schools should not search lockers. School officials should be able to search students’ lockers and here’s why.
First, schools have grown more violent lately with school shootings at Columbine, Sandy Hook, Newtown Elementary, and Townville. Schools should be able to search students lockers to check for weapons or other evidence that they might be planning to carry out a similar attack. This would hopefully help reduce the number of school shootings that occur. For example “100,000 students bring guns to schools” (Taylor). Locker searches at more schools might help to reduce that number.
Second, schools consider lockers to be the property of the school. Most schools also have a policy that allows them to search lockers whenever they want. This policy is typically found in the student handbook or in the paperwork sent home at the beginning of the year. The policy can also be obtained by contacting the school (Ascd).

It happens because there are fewer issues to deal with during the school day. This creates more time for learning. This could, in turn, produce higher grades.
There are many positive impacts to locker searches. Although schools say locker searches are expensive. However, the positives outweigh the negatives. They could also save lives by preventing mass shootings by students. It also can help reduce drug usage by identifying people who are addicted and getting them treatment.
However, the school must be sure that they are conducting a legal search. If the search is not legal, the school could get in trouble with the law and have to pay a fine or other punishment. Also, any evidence collected from an illegal search can be withheld from a trial. However, it cannot be withheld from a school board hearing. ("Know Your Rights:
