Schools all across the country conduct locker searches. They are used to check for illegal items and keep people safe. Some people think that schools should not search lockers. School officials should be able to search students’ lockers and here’s why.
First, schools have grown more violent lately with school shootings at Columbine, Sandy Hook, Newtown Elementary, and Townville. Schools should be able to search students lockers to check for weapons or other evidence that they might be planning to carry out a similar attack. This would hopefully help reduce the number of school shootings that occur. For example “100,000 students bring guns to schools” (Taylor). Locker searches at more schools might help to reduce that number.
Second, schools consider lockers to be the property of the school. Most schools also have a policy that allows them to search lockers whenever they want. This policy is typically found in the student handbook or in the paperwork sent home at the beginning of the year. The policy can also be obtained by contacting the school (Ascd).

It happens because there are fewer issues to deal with during the school day. This creates more time for learning. This could, in turn, produce higher grades.
There are many positive impacts to locker searches. Although schools say locker searches are expensive. However, the positives outweigh the negatives. They could also save lives by preventing mass shootings by students. It also can help reduce drug usage by identifying people who are addicted and getting them treatment.
However, the school must be sure that they are conducting a legal search. If the search is not legal, the school could get in trouble with the law and have to pay a fine or other punishment. Also, any evidence collected from an illegal search can be withheld from a trial. However, it cannot be withheld from a school board hearing. ("Know Your Rights:
First, allowing students to carry backpacks throughout the school day would save everyone time. Since backpacks have multiple compartments, they allow students to carry learning materials like textbooks, calculators, binders, and writing utensils. Students can use backpacks to transport laptops inside dedicated sleeves. As a result, students would waste less time at their lockers searching through debris for assignments and missing homework. Teachers, too, will welcome backpacks when they no longer have to squander valuable minutes writing locker passes. Less locker stops will reduce hallway congestion, expediting travel between classes. Without wasting the teacher’s precious minutes, students can get a drink of water, go to the bathroom, or take care of personal hygiene needs. . Even custodians will appreciate the practicality of backpacks when they are no longer interrupted from their busy jobs to unjam a muddled locker because of cumbersome coats and binders.
The school locker is usually the only private space available to a student in the environment of the school. So it focuses many of the main issues involved in privacy of the students. The 4th Amendment of the US Constitution states “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the person or things to be seized.”
The safety of fifteen or more students would be much more easily secured by one person if that person was armed. Promoting teachers to arm themselves also prevents school shootings; criminals don’t attack a victim that can fight back. At least 60% of school attacks would be prevented with an armed faculty warning sign. School faculty members should be armed to secure the safety of the country's students, and to prevent the majority of potential shootings.
School shootings are still happening and we have to put a stop to it. We need to have these teachers prepared and ready to fight. Students to deserve to have their lives out to rest knowing something could have been done that’s why we need to have these teachers armed. This is a cold world if someone enters a school with a weapon teachers need to have their weapon ready too for the sack of their children. A school is a fun place to learn but to also keep safe. This is why teachers should be armed.
Searches and seizures in schools are not recent issues; however they are becoming more public now than in recent years. The Bill of Rights covers searches and seizures under the Fourth Amendment which states that “the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched and the persons or things to be seized” (Bill of Rights par. 9). Under the Bill of Rights, citizens are guaranteed a right to privacy and are protected from unreasonable searches and seizures that are conducted without “probable cause,” evidence sufficient to warrant an arrest or search and seizure.
There are plenty of ways we can prevent school shootings and one of them is by adding more school security officers. If there is more security, then it would be easier for them to give a warning when there could be a pote...
On the CDC Media Relations web page, the 1997 statistics show that 8.3% of high school students carry a weapon (e.g., gun, knife, or club) to school and 7.4% of high school students were threatened or injured with a weapon on school property throughout the year. In the report, it also included that nationwide, 4% of students had missed 1 or more days of school during the 30 days preceding the survey because they had felt unsafe at school or when traveling to or from school. These statistics show that students are afraid of going to school, they don’t feel safe and something should be done to change that. There should be no reason why students need to bring weapons to school in order to feel safe.... ... middle of paper ... ...
The school is to protect the students from any wrong doing towards them. Such act, parents, school official and other authorities will be contacted. The case in Oakland County MI, opens many eyes for students and parents. The school board has responsibility to report such harm. This is not taken lightly, serious offense. Students could face years in prison, or face felonies.
School searchers have been going on for many years now, and as the years keep passing the searches happen more and more. Schools didn't have many back in the day due to trust in the schools also they didn't have as many drugs around as now a days. I feel that school searches are a good thing to have through out the year and also have them if they have probable cause to search sgtudents lockers.
Which can be having armed officers walk though halls, making sure the school is safe from any harm that could potentially happen.
For instance, if a student had harmful things in their locker, it’d be easier to find and confiscate them. This would prevent a potential dangerous situation, and the student would face proper consequences. Whilst I agree that locker searches could definitely potentially keep schools safer, I still believe that there are better ways to enforce safety than going through a student’s possessions, which could be mentally damaging. Mental health is equally as important as physical health, so damaging one to fix the other is still creating
“Since 2013, there have been over 200 school shootings in America, an average of nearly one a week”(Everytown Research). How safe is our family members at school? Allowing teachers and staff to carry guns could lower that number. Some people may disagree with it, saying that it would be teaching students violence. School shootings would be a thing of the past if staff were armed.
Should school control student internet access? What if students internet access wasn't blocked? They could look and search anything. They would not get in trouble for anything they did on school-provided technology.
Secoundly, if student have vauables like Beats, Iphone, or a PC and was they put it in their lockers in their bags someone can come a steal them. They school says it’s not their responsibility for that item if stolen. It really is their problem because they tell us that we can’t carry our bags, so we use their lockers that they provide us that we have to trust. We would know that our vaulebles will not get stolen if we have them in our bags that are with us. Everyday in the moring I go to my locker waiting for people to get done with their locker which I have all my stuff for my classes, but I can’t go to my classes because I have to put away my bags and jacket.
As can be seen, I think that the lockers could use a big change. First of all, the difficulty to understand and remember a combination. Who could possibly remember a combination, balance a schedule full of school work, take care of a brother who is in bad condition from a bad car wreak, not me. The lock on the lockers are wired and difficult for some, but security is important I understand that. All in all, lockers could use an improvement, in my opinion.
