Methodology is a tool that helps to manage a project in order to develop a new system in the best possible form. It covers many topics such as plan, user requirements, design, implementation and testing. Charvat (1967, p3)[6] gives many definitions of what is methodology these are; A process that documents a series of steps and procedures to bring about the successful completion of a project, A series of steps through which the project progresses and An Integrated assembly of tasks, techniques, tools, roles and responsibilities, and milestones used for delivering the project. However since there are more roles and team members the methodology is important to co-ordinate the project so no one is overlapping, the work is divided and the project runs smoother. Depending on the number of roles some projects can require more than one methodology. 2.1.2 Principle 2 “Use Denser methodologies for more critical projects” developing problems can cause problems. Cockburn (2002, p65-66)[8] specifies some these are Loss of comfort, Loss of discretionary and irreplaceable money and Loss of life. Other problems like system errors, changes to user requirements and testing issues. Any of these problems can arise in projects, which makes the project become critical and will then require a heavier methodology. 2.1.3 Principle 3 “Weight is cost” The amount of methodology adds a large amount to the project cost.
