The probation and parole system

The probation and parole system is a system that allows individuals prosecuted for crimes a way to show they are rehabilitated and will less likely commit a new crime or offense. Like an individual that is given probation instead of jail time is one less likely to be a threat to society and been sent to jail or prison is not necessary. But under probation this individual must still follow a particular guideline for example was report to probation officer, also must be drug and alcohol free and submit to drug and alcohol tests and participate in a program or counseling to show rehabilitation. If anything in this guideline is not followed the individual under probation may have probation removed and serve prison or jail time.
Parole is given to an offender/client that has been incarcerated for part of their sentence. Being given parole that individual is given his freedom back under certain conditions. Some of these conditions are similar to probation but was stricter penalties which includes going back to jail or prison. …show more content…

Under the probation or parole system several crimes mostly the more severe crimes are not eligible. A probation or parole board looks at several factors for eligibility some examples of these are age, mental stability, whether or not the individual is married or single and prior criminal behavior. Most inmates that are given parole in some cases have earned it through good behavior, rehabilitation programs and classes taken through the prisoner institution and if there is remorse for the crime that was committed. As part of the offender/client parole in some cases must establish permanent residence and gainful employment when released from prison and was not be a threat to public
