"the message of this book is that recovery from addiction is possible."(pg 2). Recovery is an ongoing journey that requires a lot of attention and constant dedication. In this book they have found six principles that help along the journey which include: Hope, Coping skills, Achievement and Accomplishment, Meaningful Relationships, Identity development, and Reclamation of agency. Those who complete these principles become more aware and gain the right mind set to continue on their path of recovery thus growing themselves. The first step, Hope, is a reawakening and emerges when a person has hit bottom but has became aware that living is an option. Hope tells you that healing and good lie ahead, it is possible to rise from the pain. This step is the beginning to reaching out to others, asking for help from those around you who love and support this journey. Its all about trust in others but also in yourself, you must find redemption from your past, move on from your wrongs. Shame can be a road block, it makes you believe you are not worth redemption and a greater happiness. Determine who participates in your life that help you along the journey, a key person can help with managing shame and get you to move on, by building a team of people around you makes recovery easier. This team of people is also the fourth principle, capacity for meaningful relationships, it is very important to pick the right people who participate and its also important to create boundaries for what aspects they are able to participate in. These people must respect your boundaries but also push you to better yourself and continue on your path. As time goes along you will gain greater skills to better cope and overcome the old cycle of
