The US political system and how it is, flawed. The goals of the US. Political system are to support the economic system, protect rights, common defense, provide public services, and maintain laws. Now with these goals in mind, it is clear that to efficiently accomplish these goals, political power should not be divided. It was best stated when Abraham Lincoln said “A house divided amongst itself cannot stand” meaning, so long as there are parties fighting in the political system it is fragile and these problems need to be rectified first. Furthermore if neither party is without its flaws then neither one can be followed and if combining them will not compensate for the others flaws then a whole new alternative must be presented. Inside these parties are many different goals to cover as much of them as possible we'll break it down little by little. A big goal of the Republican party is to increase the power of the U.S government as a whole which can lead to many problems. One problem that comes from this is some individuals problems and concerns are not met. Also, a majority of the government is run by Republicans so we need not wonder why they are eager to increase the power of the government. In the end, an easy way to look at the Republican party would be as the heartless elephant. A big goal the Democrats is to increase the individual states power however this can be a problem to. One way this is a problem is because some states can make laws that aren't beneficial to its community. Additionally this can also lead to further separation, in other words making the United States less united. On top of this Democrats get most of their support because the Republican party's so bad making them the best of a bad situation. According to the American Civil Liberties Union, “The racial disparities resulting from this system have been staggering. Black individuals are imprisoned at nearly six times the rate of their white counterparts — and Latinos are locked up at nearly double the white rate. Most of this racial disparity is a result of the War on Drugs. While these groups engage in drug use, possession, and sales at rates comparable to their representation in the general population, the system disparately impacts people of color. Now with this ugly fact in mind they are dealing out harsh penalties to one time offenders ruining their chances of getting other jobs, not evening trying to give them a better chance of getting another job and eliminating their opportunity to vote. While taking away an ex-convict's ability to vote may seem like a good idea they have been in prison for quite awhile thinking about what they've done wrong and the American judicial system seeing the other side of it seems like who better to vote then them. Even more disturbingly, one must wonder if race plays a part in the sentence some offenders receive because a study was conducted with a man name Jose Zamora. Now he dropped one letter from his name changing it to Joe a name commonly given to a caucasian man, and the experiment was to see who would get more job reponses joe or jose the answer obviously being joe.
