Interest in podiatry
In a basketball team practice, my friend sprained his left ankle after grabbing a rebound. He could hardly walk after the injury, not to mention participating in competitions. His left calf muscle also experienced an atrophy. Luckily, he began to recover after receiving rehabilitative care. At that time, I recognized the importance of foot and ankle health.
During my undergraduate studies of public health, it was my first time learning about nature of podiatrists’ work. Among various medical specialist, I was particularly interested in podiatry, advocating minimally invasive treatment procedure. This is consistent with my personal ethics and principles – patient-centered care and quality of life. Besides, patients who received podiatric treatment usually show significant and quick physiological improvement, which can give podiatrist satisfaction.

Similar with other medical specialist, podiatrists have to be academically capable of completing the intensive study and training. I have obtained a high GPA in my undergraduate study (expected First-class honour). Also, I have attended courses in health science and human biology in the Faculty of Medicine. Equipped with relevant academic knowledge, I strongly believe that I could handle the study in podiatry well.
Apart from academic attainment, I also developed good communication and interpersonal skills from extra-curricular activities and working experience in healthcare settings. If I were a podiatrist, I would not only provide care responsive to each patient’s individual need and show empathy, but also work closely with other healthcare professionals for patients with multi-morbidity.
