The Holy Spirit Many people just think of God the Father and Jesus Christ, but the Trinity has a third member. That member is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the third part of the Trinity, and he has his own personality, he has metaphors to describe himself, and he has a presence in the world that is shown through his works. The Holy Spirit is a person. People have a hard time believing that mainly because of his name, which causes them to think that he is merely a force ("Pneumatology: The Holy Spirit"). But, the Holy Spirit has certain attributes that show proof of his personality. Firstly, the Holy Spirit has knowledge and intellect (Enns 246). In Matthew 3:16, the Holy Spirit is referred to as a dove coming down from Heaven, which can be interpreted to mean blessings or peace were coming down to Christ, as he is the true Messiah ("Pneumatology: The Holy Spirit"). The Holy Spirit was also classified as clothing. Acts 1:8 talks about Christians being covered or filled with the Holy Spirit, and then being given the power that they need to spread the gospel to everyone who needs it ("Pneumatology: The Holy Spirit"). Another metaphor for the Holy Spirit is wind. According to John 3:8, wind goes wherever it wants, and people can feel the affects of it, which is how the Holy Spirit works. A person may not realize that he is working until they see the effects afterwards ("Pneumatology: The Holy Spirit"). The Holy Spirit is also a seal for his people. Christians are able to identify with the Holy Spirit, and with that seal, they are also under his protection ("Pneumatology: The Holy Spirit"). Lastly, the Holy Spirit can be defined as a fire. Both God and the Holy Spirit were very prevalent during the times of Moses in the forms of the burning bush and the pillar of fire.
