Why were plebeians so important to Rome? The ancient Roman society consisted of two main classes, the patricians and plebeians. Although the partition were the decedents of the founders of the Rome and holding the most power and wealth, the plebeians were the real base of the roman society and without them the roman civilization were not able to survive. The plebeians who were citizens of Rome did not have almost any civil or political rights in early roman republic or even before that at the time of kingship. The patricians held all kinds of civil and political rights including the right of ownerships of the lands, public offices, important military positions exclusively for themselves.
