What is MTBE and Why we should be Concerned !!
MTBE stands for Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether. In 1990 congress passed the Clean
Air Act to reduce smog in cities that were listed as ozone non-attainment area. Congress mandated Reformulated Gasoline (RFG) as part of the act. Congress mandated as part of it formula, a 2% by weight oxygenate to be added to RFG to reduce hydrocarbon SMOG pollutants from automobile exhaust emissions.
MTBE is a chemical, which promotes more complete combustion by adding oxygen to gasoline. This increases the temperature at which gasoline burns in the engine and reduces the amount of harmful vehicle exhaust emissions, such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and hydrocarbons. MTBE is manufactured by combining isobutylene (a waste product in the gasoline refining process) and methanol (produced from natural gas). It is a colorless flammable liquid at room temperature with turpentine like color.
MTBE evaporates quickly from surface water, soil or open containers. MTBE is not expected to persist in the atmosphere because of its rapid reaction with hydroxyl radicals and its degradation by sunlight. However, it may also contribute to the formation of photochemical smog when it reacts with other volatile organic compounds in the atmosphere. Once in the air, MTBE can mix with precipitation that can eventually carry MTBE to groundwater or surface water.
MTBE is highly soluble in water and very mobile in the subsurface. It enters groundwater quickly because it does not bind well with soil and persists due to a lack of anaerobic or aerobic biodegradation. Water supplies view MTBE as the most menacing ingredient of gasoline leaked from underground...

... that the rise in ADD among children is related to the neurological effects of MTBE resulting in difficulty concentrating and lightheadedness.
Summary: at current levels of 15 to 20% in RFG
MTBE is having very little if any effect in reducing SMOG
MTBE is actually contributing to the SMOG problem
MTBE is water soluble, leachable and is contaminating water supplies nationwide
MTBE is degrades into TBF which is highly and acutely toxic
MTBE is causing adverse health effects like increased rates in asthma, especially children, it cities where it is being used
MTBE as a oxygenate, is serving no useful purpose to society except to line the pockets of a few chemical manufactures at the expense of the American public

Geography in essence is the study of the physical and human world. Physical and human geography share similarities while also maintaining some notable differences. Physical geography is the study of the natural world and its processes, whereas human geography is the study of the people inhabiting the earth, their languages and culture. Everything it means to be a human is studied in Human Geography. Both forms of geography serve to benefit and help the world in their own ways by facilitating the
Physical characteristics are things that are a piece of the area itself. They are a depiction of the landforms of a region, overlooking human exercises. This incorporates rivers, coasts, bayous, mountains, canyons, valleys, and lakes, among different features. Physical maps are the most ideal approach to show the physical characteristics of a zone. The United States is a vast nation with an extensive variety of physical features, from tall mountains to profound valleys, rivers, lakes, and plains

A difference is the area Canada possesses which makes Canada the 2nd largest country
when it comes to its physical and human geography. Jamaica’s physical geography is made up of a numerous amount of features. Some of these features will include rocks and minerals, landforms, plant and animal life, and the climate. We can also look at the soils, environment, and the oceans. These can all contribute to the physical geography of Jamaica. The human geography of Jamaica is just as remarkable as the physical geography. The features that go along with the human geography are features such
man's incredible progress was not wholly due to human inventions and innovations. Physical geography influenced many of the choices previous generations made, and it still affects several of our choices today. The development, dispersion, and alteration of cultures was also impacted by physical geography, as it hindered diffusion of some cultures and promoted others. Most importantly, the emergence
Geography is derived from the Greek word Geographia which means the structure of the Earth. Geography is devoted to the study of land, the phenomena, the climate, the features and the inhabitants of the Earth. Eratosthenes was the Greek geographer who first used the term Geography. Muslim Scientists have made a great contribution in the field of geography and Earth sciences and the most notable are Al-Khuwarzami, Abu Zayd Al-Balkhi and Abu Rehan Beruni. By having provided a home for humans for over five million years, this proves that Africa contains more than just sandy deserts.

Physical geography has shaped humans, our cultures, and our societies. Physical geography refers to the weather, climate, or agriculture of a certain region. Humans cannot control the weather so, so we must adapt whatever nature brings our way. Specific life styles must come and go, and we must be able to shift from one condition to another. How has physical geography shaped the world we live in today? In Jared Diamond’s “Guns, Germs, and Steel” he seeks for an explanation on why some societies
