In most cases, when you ask a kid about what he wants to be when he grows up, he would probably answer a doctor, a lawyer, or an engineer. It is very rare that you would hear a little kid saying that he wants to be a pharmacist. I have to be honest pharmacy wasn’t really something that I dreamed about as a child; it was only in recently that I have developed an appreciation to my chosen field. Like doctors, pharmacists also save lives by providing proper medication to people who are in need. I became inspired by fellow professionals that are already in the field and are making a difference. These organizations have provided me with a community that could understand my sentiments and at the same time empowers me to strive for the better. Some of the members of these organizations have even become my role models, while others reached out and became my mentors. Through them, I have learned that a successful career in our field can 't be achieve by just being knowledgeable in all aspects of pharmacy, but with the right characteristics. Part of excelling in any filed requires flexibility. It does not only mean that you have to be able to adjust your skills to the things that are demanded from you, but also to be flexible enough to adapt to whatever environment you have to work in. Additionally, working in the field of pharmaceutical field requires a certain flexibility in dealing with other people. I have to say that this is probably the hardest trait that I had to develop as it requires much patience. In order to develop flexibility, I had to first work on my knowledge and skills. I had to work and study hard to develop such characteristics. I also needed to work on my social skills for me to be able to successfully interact with all kinds of people. I have never seen myself as a sociable person. I decided that joining professional organizations would be a good head start into improving my social skills and my hypothesis did not fail me. Not only was I able to become more socially responsive, I was also able to improve my adaptation skills. The steps I took helped me a lot in my flexibility and at the same time won me a lot of lifelong friends in the field. The last aspect in my career that I had to develop is the ability to be prepared at all times. Pharmacy is a full time career that occupies most of your time. Ultimately I decided that a career in Pharmacy was perhaps the best way for me to utilize my talents, while at the same time meet my passionate desire to make the world a better place. There are a lot of reasons why I chose to pursue pharmacy as my career and they all point to the most important reason: pharmacy is a great fit for my life and is something I have become increasingly passionate about. It started when I was researching careers with my parents and my dad suggested pharmacy and, simply put, it sparked my interest because at the time it was one of the few things I thought I would not hate doing. A healthcare career has always been where I put myself in the future, mainly because most of my family members are in the healthcare field. When you ask people what you think when word “pharmacist” come to your mind? They often say pharmacist have to deal with variety of legal drugs. From my personal opinion, when I hear the word “Pharmacist”, I think of helping others. This inspiration came from my Health Science class I took in twelve grade. Until senior year of my high school, I did not know what I wanted to be. But it all changed, after my first shadowing experience at pharmacist station. There I learn about what exactly the pharmacist career is about, what are some of the equipments used in the field and how I can contribute the knowledge I receive here to help others.
It is with great excitement that I submit my application to the pharmacy residency program. Through my experiential training I have developed an interest in critical care medicine and I plan to pursue it as my specialized training. The involvement of multiple disease states and fields of study, and the countless opportunities for multidisciplinary practice is what drives my interest in the field.
Pharmacists are highly educated in the form, uses, and interactions of certain medicines and also in how those medicines affect normal body functions. They keep thorough patient medication records, which contain important health information. Pharmacy technicians give advice to patients on the proper use of medications, and they also are important sources of information to physicians and other health care providers.
Since my early schooling days, science and mathematics have always fascinated me given that all components of the world are explained on the basis of these disciplines. In this regard, Pharmacy which is based on Chemistry and Mathematics has interested me a great deal as it has direct impacts on our daily lives. The more I have become familiar with the chemistry and mathematics knowledge involved in pharmacy, the more I have appreciated its significance in improving the lives of people in the community. Out of the many careers that one would opt to pursue, Pharmacy has stood out as the career that will enable me serve the society more directly and have a real impact in the quality of peoples’ lives by touching their health. In addition, I love a career that is challenging and one that I will be involved in even in old age. In this case, Pharmacy offers me this opportunity. My interest in Pharmacy has also developed from my personal health experiences and becoming aware of its expansiveness. Every time I have had to take medicine to cure an illness, I have become more interested to know how drugs are made and how the drug components work in the human body to alleviate pain and restore health. I desire to pursue a career in Pharmacy so as to gain practical experience in these aspects of research.
The importance of the becoming a pharmacist should not be about what the career can give a person in monetary value or the amount of accolades one receives. Instead, the career should be about saving and improving human lives and serving the public. Pharmacists keep people healthy, make them feel better, and try to help the public live longer and happier lives as long as possible. From small infant children to the elderly, everyone needs pharmaceutical care. Sometimes it can be a matter of life and death if medication is not available to the public. Pharmacy as a career would be a wise decision if a person could withstand the amount of education the profession entails.
Having grown up with an aunt involved in the medical field, I developed an interest in her work and the effects it had on her patients. Watching her assist ill people back to marvelous health, made me decide that I wanted to become a pharmacist. A pharmacist’s role is to fill prescriptions to patients and provide advice on healthy lifestyles. Being a pharmacist is the ideal career for me because it will allow me to live securely, provide me with excellent benefits, and let me impact other people’s lives. Pharmacy is my passion. It all started the summer of my 7th-grade year in middle school, right before it was time for me to enter 8th grade. I had just finished participating in the Summer Science Program at Nova Southeastern University. My attendance at this summer school made me realize that Physics, Astrology, and Engineering were not meant for me. Medicine was the best way to go.
¬ My decision to become a pharmacist first started with the death of my grandmother. She had battled cancer twice, but, unfortunately, the complexity of the second cancer was too much to overcome. Over the next few months, I watched as the chemotherapy slowly began to deteriorate her. Before I knew it, she was slipping away, and there was nothing I could do to stop the pain and suffering. After a valiant fight, cancer overtook her, and she died five months later.
I strongly believe that personal characteristics is an essential part of being a good clinical pharmacist. My personal characteristics that qualify me to be a good PharmD candidate are I am energetic, ambitious, and have the enthusiasm that enables me to develop a mature and responsible approach to accomplish tasks assigned to me. Another quality I possess is being life-long learner. I continue learning and building on my knowledge by learning from others and gaining multiple knowledge and experiences for continuing self-development. I believe all of these are features needed for a clinical pharmacist as they would make her an engine of change and development in all areas of the pharmacy
Pharmacists have very important roles in healthcare from all angles. Physicians and licensed practitioners that write a written prescription, the pharmacist reviews patient history, health conditions, and interactions with the new medication prescribed. As a pharmacy technician (for six years) I had a somewhat of an overview on what they accomplished in a shift but did not know everything on what I know now from this research. Pharmacy students that are in the process to obtain their doctor of pharmacy (D.Pharm.) go through a series of training, education and internship to become a well-rounded pharmacist.
Becoming a pharmacist would allow me to have stability and flexibility in the future with my life, which will be important when I am older.
