Cancer The Silent Assassin Do you know about this kid called Vinny? Vinny is a 9 year old who grew out his hair to donate to a charity for people who are battling cancer. Now Vinny has been diagnosed with stage four cancer behind his left eye, his hips, his nose and his cheeks. This is how silent cancer can be. It is so silent that it could happen to anyone including Vinny. Also, cancer kills eight million per year worldwide. According to The American Cancer Society “Cancer is the second most common cause of death among children ages 1 to 14 years in the US, after accidents. In 2018, an estimated 10,590 children in this age group will be diagnosed with cancer and 1,180 will die from it.” (1). Cancer is the worst disease in human history. First, cancer is the worst disease in human history because it is very lethal. Second, cancer is the worst disease because it is very common.

In fact, there was an estimated 600,920 deaths from cancer in 2017 and 1,688,780 new cases. Every three minutes two people die from cancer in the United States. Also, anyone can get cancer. Each year 12.7 million people discover that they have cancer worldwide. Each year seven point six million people die from cancer worldwide. Also thirty to forty percent of all cancer deaths can be prevented. Many people think that it is just adults that are affected, but according to The National Institute of Cancer, kids are also affected by cancer “In 2014, an estimated 15,780 children and adolescents from ages 0 to 19 will be diagnosed with cancer sometime in their lives.”
