Novelist, Norman Mailer, in his narrative essay, “The Death of Benny Paret,” recounts his experience as he witnesses a first-hand account of the tragic death of the boxer, Benny Paret. The entire fight seems to go on for hours and Mailer uses a series of comparisons and similes to describe every minute gritty detail of the fight, it feels like the fight was 45 minutes rather than 45 seconds. The actual death of Benny Paret almost feels as if his death is an afterthought, that it wasn’t the paramount part of the fight, but rather the hypnotizing and engrossing fight that just consumed this large audience.
Today I am taking a break from the series of articles I usually write, to bring you a subject I have thought about for a long time. I only started paying attention to wrestling in my teen years, so the "Attitude Era" was what I considered wrestling. Argument Against a Ban on Boxing The entertaining sport of boxing, an athletic event consisting of numerous health conflictions, has been receiving some heat from legal and medical advocates, yet “Some of the qualities that have open boxing to attack have, at the same time, been its salvation”(Sammons 235). Boxing, which has been in existence and evolved from other forms of fighting longer than this country has been established, is a skill, talent, an ambition, and for most professional fighters, a love. Professional boxing, like virtually any physical recreation, is performed so that there are health risks, yet it is the athletes right to decide their personal levels of danger. Domestic violence is an issue that has affected many people regardless of age, race, or gender. The seriousness of it can vary dramatically.
