Long summer vacations have always been something that students look forward to towards the end of the school year. Taking this away would do nothing but make students less interested and less motivated to do their best to finish the year. Changing the traditional school calendar to year-round would not help school children as much as everyone tries to prove.
Young children and teens need more time to do fun things outside of school. Shorter summer breaks can disrupt activities that are usually only done during the summer, such as vacations, family and friend bonding, clubs, etc (Opheim). Many children find ways to learn in the summer without having to go to school, and they do not even realize it. For instance, I know many children who go to summer camps that provide education in a fun way, rather than making everyone sit in a boring classroom for seven hours. Students’ attitudes toward year-round school (YRS) is a main concern; however, they are not the only ones who have problems with it.

Working parents can have a hard time finding childcare during the two to three week breaks throughout the year, especially if their babysitters do not have the YRS calendar or work other jobs during those times. The parents have to either find childcare during the breaks or alter their own work schedules, which could financially hurt the family after a while (Christensen). I know how stressed my parents get when school gets canceled just for a day and they cannot find a babysitter, so I cannot imagine what it would be like if we were out for weeks and they still had to go to work. Nonetheless, there is some resistance to schools converting to a year-round calendar. Most of that opposition comes from the reduction in intersession length, and some students and/or parents don 't like the idea of year-round education from the start. This gives families a reason to voice their opposition when both the parents and child 's schedules do not line up with one another. This usually affects households that wish to take long vacations over the course of a summer. Parents, in some cases, may oppose this change because of child care needs. Child care raises opposition since there is a shift in the school year calendar. Parents may not be able to find nannies or babysitters. Would you consider going to a school where you learn year-round? Maybe this would be your ideal school, but, when would you get to have some time to go to summer camp, or get a summer job, or play a sport with games during the day? Schools with the traditional schedule may actually be a better choice, and not just because kids love summer break. Schools should have a traditional school year schedule instead of a year round schedule because there isn’t a significant difference between the students’ performance, and year round schedules make planning family vacations hard, make the teachers’ job more difficult, and are more expensive. Also, having a summer break allows kids to participate in activities that they would not be able to do on a year round schedule due to the shorter breaks.
Although, year round school wouldn’t be just a bad thing. For example, shorter summer breaks may decrease the amount of learning students lose. It can also mean that students are less likely to have summer learning loss. Also, students test scores lower after summer break. Therefore, some people get free or reduced meals but in the summer they wouldn’t get that. Shorter breaks would cause a hard time to find childcare and to pay childcare.

As a result. many are fighting for year-round school. Year-round school has proven to be beneficial in the lives of students and has lead to greater success in the classroom.
For years, parents and educators have debated the advantages and disadvantages of the traditional school calendar, which has long summer vacations for all students.The longer you are away from school, the more you lose what you learned in the previous year. Studies have shown that children who know English as a second language benefit the most from year-round education because during the long summer break, they may not hear English for several months. Long summer breaks is a problem for traditional schools and the solution is to substitute traditional schools for year-round schools.
Back in the early ages, the idea of year-round school would be thought as completely insane, because the farming families depended on their children to be home during harvest time. Now in modern times, the term year-round school is becoming more and more common in the United States of America. Slowly the schools are changing the way they teach, from giving the students a long three month break to a shorter one month break during the summer. The change of America’s high schools to the year-round schedule benefits both the schools and the students because they still get breaks throughout the school year, the children are less likely to forget information, the children would have more time with the teachers to learn, and the parents would not have to pay for childcare during the long summer break.
As a student, it can be hard to remember things from past school years, when you have a long summer break breaking the educational flow. This knowledge loss over a long summer break can lead to a lot of time being wasted on re-teaching past lessons. Year round schooling supports the teachers to just keep continually teaching kids new information over a year long period, without big reviews which can take up days or weeks depending on the subject. Also, when students are let out for a long summer break, it can cause new sleeping patterns and motivational habits to develop. This can be a problem when school starts up and kids are out of sync from the long summer break they just had. With the year-round schooling the breaks are much shorter which could prevent a student from getting into a new sleep or study habit. Having well rested and attentive students is a big help to the teachers.Year-round schooling is also helpful for teachers because with the numerous breaks they would have more time to catch up on grading papers and/or projects from their classes; parents would then have better up-to-date status of their child’s grades. If students go to a year-round school they could have a better chance of not getting homework over their breaks (Debate.org). This is because most teachers who teach at year-round schools feel that they are not as rushed to teach their curriculum because they don’t have to waste time on reviewing past lessons and kids can use their past knowledge better to help understand what they are learning
Every summer children lose valuable information. When school is back in session, students spend months trying to recall everything that was forgotten over those few weeks off. The arrangement of days in the academic year does play a role on how students perform in school, but not so much on the expenses. Therefore, schools should implement Year-Round education because it more affordable and is better for the children in the long run.

Year round education (YRE) is a traditional school schedule in the United States of America provides nine-months of instruction and three month summer vacation. YRE has been present in society since the early 1900's (Bussard). At the end of the 180 day, the teachers and students have enjoyed a relaxing vacation during three month long summer breaks. Schools will continue to follow 180 days system on the calendar; yet, these will have a shorter every term. The traditional calendar is simply changing the instruction and summer vacation that all the all students and staff are in school or vacation at the same time. Many people thought YRE is a good idea for students to improve academic achievement; but there are several reasons why going to school all year round is a bad idea against YRE because the family tradition, work experience, and air conditioning.
In the United States, most schools still use a ten-month calendar that was developed when our country’s students needed school off to help with harvesting (Palmer). Trimble Local Schools Superintendent Kim Jones says, “year-round schooling is the notion of getting away from the old agrarian calendar...which was formed up around the planting season. Students were out of school from April until harvest to work in the fields,” (qtd. in Hapka). Under the agrarian system, most United States students are in school for nine to ten months, and get a two- to three- month summer vacation. However, the United States is no longer an agricultural-based society, and students have no need to take a three-month-long, unnecessary, not to mention disruptive break during the summer months; instead, the United States should switch the school systems to a year-round calendar.

Year round schooling has some bad and good reasons for the idea. There maybe bad reason like that it puts stress on people and but pressure on the parents and the kids. Therefore kids will most likely have and better education and learn more then you do with a traditional school calendar. “Year-round school offers a number of educational benefits, as well. Remedial education is emphasized, in order to prevent students from falling too far behind their peers.”
The first reason why year round schooling wouldn’t be a good idea is because of focusing for long periods of times for some students.
