Recommended: Harmful Reality Of Zoos
When talking about zoos some people think that they are terrific for the animals while others think they’re harmful to the animals. I think that zoos are terrible because the animals are trapped and zoos even cause some animals to have a mental illness. The first reason I think that the animals are trapped is because they are in small cages and habitats, and are forced to socialize with other animals of their kind. In the text it says some animals “who are accustomed to swimming up to 100 miles in one day and diving hundreds of feet, are forced to live in confined spaces” (“Zoochosis”). This proves that zoos are changing animal's behavior from their natural instinct.
Another reason I think zoos are awful is because they make the animals
Keeping animals locked in cages, bored and cramped up in such a small space is an awful sight to show the children. It creates an image in the little minds of children that animals are to be treated like they don’t matter. They say Zoos are a place where children can learn about the wild, exotic animals, but in reality it doesn't teach them anything only that they are meant to be caged up, which is wrong. Also, it is really painful to see the animals bored and lonely, so why should people keep letting them do this to these beautiful creatures. Animal captivity for entertainment should end to let them go to their rightful home.
It’s always fun to go with your friends and family to see cute and exotic animals when you go to the zoo, right? You may think that they have the best life having people to give them things that they want and to protect them, but some of them are actually suffering just for our amusement from being in that small enclosure all day and all night. Animals should not be put in zoos because they can develop many mental and physical health problems due to the absence of some natural necessities and they are not always treated as nice as you think. “Zoochosis” is a term used for the specific behaviors that animals in captivity get due to unstimulating or even small enclosures. These behaviors are usually repetitive and purposeless, like pacing and overgrooming.
The topic of rather zoos are made to educate the people or if they are simply just animal cruelty. Zoos contain many animals. From, elephants, lions, tigers, dolphins, otters, giraffes, chimpanzees and gorillas. These animals are accustomed to living in their natural habitat which is with no cages and are free to roam as they please. Zoos are miserable places for animals, according to CAPS an undercover investigator filmed sick animals left untreated and dead animals to rot on floors at Tweedle Farm Zoo. Zoos are overcrowded and there was no provision for individual feeding or sleeping areas. Some lions exhibit skin wounds and multiple scars of various age, some fresh, some healed. Another reason why Zoos should be illegal is simply because zoos cannot provide the amount of space animals would have in the wild. Lions and Tigers have around 18,000 times less space in zoos than they would in the wild. Polar bears have one million times less space. (10 Facts About Zoos). 54% of elephants are showing stereotypies (behavioral problems) during the daytime. One elephant observed during day ...
Animals have been mistreated, and uncared for, for centuries. Most zoos and circuses do not have the resources to care for animals properly, or they simply do not care at all. This is why the governmental Animal Welfare Act is not doing its job. Meanwhile the American Zoo and Aquarium Association has made a great test for zoos, employees, and animals. This is why zoos should become American Zoo and Aquarium Association accredited because it will make zoos more people and animal friendly and will stop mistreatment of animals.
As if that alone isn’t enough to prove that zoos are cruel and unfair, there are many professionals and experts who gravely look down upon zoos, too. Delcianna Winders, director with the PETA foundation, said “Renowned oceanographer Jean-Michel Cousteau reported that he was forever changed after witnessing a captive dolphin commit suicide by ramming his head into a tank wall.... ... middle of paper ... ...
Millions of people visit zoos every year, not knowing that they can be very inhumane to most animals. Zoos may be a very good tourist attraction and a good field trip, that could be very educational if it is a good zoo, but they should not be allowed to carry all of the animals it does. With zoos carrying many different types of animals only certains should be held in the zoo. Only animals that are about to be extinct should be in the zoos. Since there are very few of an animal that is about to go extinct, it would be a very safe option to have them kept there.
Would You Support It? Imagine never seeing a giraffe pluck leaves off a tree, or an elephant take a mud bath right in front of your eyes. Visualize never seeing these animals because the animals were extinct, or, there wasn’t enough research about them to maintain a sustainable population. But, if there was a way to prevent this, would you support it?
Animals at zoos are getting mistreated by zoo keepers. The animals want to get free they bite the fences to try to get out because they have a disease called zoochosis. There are two reasons why I’m writing this paper is the population of zoos and zoochosis. The population of animals at zoos are getting smaller than the wild, and zoochosis is a disease that animals are getting. Zoos should be eliminated.
Have you ever heard the roar of a lion?Have you ever seen elephants so close that you could practically touch them? If you have, most likely you saw these great creatures in a zoo. If some people get their way, most zoos everywhere will be abolished. What if all zoos closed down? If all zoos shut their gates, the excitement and knowledge they bring to all of us would be gone!
If someone were to come and relocate an entire town from the safety of their homes to an unfamiliar place away from everything they have grown to know for years, would it be right, or would it be considered a violation of one’s rights? Every year, this happens to thousands of wild animals from around the world for the sole purpose of personal entertainment we call zoos. Though they are educational and provide for an entertaining, fun experience, zoos should be abolished because the animals are not treated with as much care as they deserve and zoos cause behavioral behavioral and health problems. Zoo enthusiasts would say that zoos are educational. The Saint Louis Zoo professionals claim, “People learn at zoos.
Going to the zoo or circus with the family has always been a great activity. You get to spend time seeing the animals and having a laugh or two. However, have you ever thought about how the animals feel. Zoos are not able to provide sufficient space for animals, and often house them in small cages or too small of fenced areas. Circus animals are tortured by putting them in cages and forcing them to be entertainment.
Zoos By: Ava Winkle Zoos should be shut down because animals get treated like slaves, they get torn from their families, and they get frustrated. Animals are beautiful creatures that have their own way of living. They don’t want to be locked up in a cage and treated like things. They want space to run and play and have fun.
“Only if we understand, will we care. Only if we care, will we help. Only if we help shall all be saved,” said by Jane Goodall. Throughout the whole entire world there is over ten thousand zoos, filled with over 6,130 species, with over 1,050 endangered species. Hundreds of thousands of people visits zoos annually.
Would you be willing to risk your fun and enjoyment for an animal’s happiness? Everytime families go to the zoo and give them money, they are making an animal suffer. The more money zoos get, the more animals are taken. Animals are depressed every day because they are being deprived of their rights; their right to be free. It’s obvious that zoos are harmful to animals because the animals become depressed, the scientists wouldn’t learn much, and because they are not prepared enough when they are released back into the wild.
Zoos are an unsuitable environment for wild animals and should, therefore, be abolished. Firstly, zoo animals are kept in a very confined area compared to their vast natural habitat. Secondly, breeding programmes are far less successful than zoos claim. Thirdly, zoo animals are exposed to many diseases and other dangers. Zoo animals are usually kept in very cramped enclosures and do not behave like their wild counterparts.
