Space Exploration Article Space Exploration has waisted billions of dollars on just failed attempts to go to space. This is foolish, when we have so many problems in the world to solve. World problems range from poverty and starving people to natural disaster damage. Every problem requires a surplus of money. This means we can’t spare any to unnecessary causes such as space exploration. There are so many world problems and issues that need to be solved that will require using valuable resources, these resources should not be wasted on space exploration. One example of a problem that needs to be solved is world poverty and hunger. In an article about world hunger it stated, “11.3% of the world’s population is hungry. That’s roughly 805 million people who go undernourished on a daily basis, consuming less than the recommended 2,100 calories a day.” Instead of using the valuable resources on buying a 209 billion dollar rocket, this money should go to these hungry suffering people. Another fact from this article includes, “Nearly 98% of worldwide hunger exists in underdeveloped countries.” Just because Americans do not see world hunger doesn’t mean it’s not out there. According to a news article on vox.com, in just 2017 alone natural disasters caused around $306 billion in damage. The U.S. is going to have a lot of financial difficulties if we keep spending money on space exploration and natural disasters. We can’t stop natural disasters damage, but we can stop wasting so much money on space exploration. In a different article on 11facts.com they have cause over 1.7 trillion dollars in damage over the years. The word race is defined at its core as a competition between runners, horses, vehicles, boats, etc. to see which is the fastest in covering a set course. Well, interestingly enough, a race of a different kind occurred between two countries from the years 1957 to 1969. To me, this emphasizes the fact that we continually embark on useless space voyages instead of considering the problems at hand. I can support this because the cost of space voyages is at the minimum of $500 to the maximum of $700 million. Found in Source B, on page 201, paragraph 3, lines 14-15 “It costs $500 to $700 million every time the shuttle flies.” This is a large sum of money, that has the capability to help many, yet we do not do this. If you can possibly visualize this, many people can find new homes, get well fed, and give their children a future to look up to, instead of wasting the money on a government project. In fact, the National Census Bureau of Statistics claimed over 46.5 people fell in poverty since 2014. Also stated, it would roughly take $175.3 billion to completely eliminate poverty. This is a tremendous amount of money, although we could have easily reduced this amount of money by limiting space exploration. In the story Leaving Main Street the author states, “The United States has more important things to spend money on.” On the other hand some people believe that successful space programs adds to our economy,national prestige,create jobs,and improves national security. We shouldn't spend valuable resources on space exploration, because we could end hunger and poverty.
As a country we need to start investing more money and research into space technology. Programs currently exist for this effort, but the potential for research and progress is limited by a lack of funding; compared to other government funded programs, aerospace funding is pitiful. Continued research in space technology is a necessary step in our growth and development not just as a country but also as entire human race. If we are to achieve this goal, it is necessary to increase funding for space research and technology and consider the possibility of colonizing outer space. If we limit our existence to the planet Earth, and continue to drain the resources on this planet, we will destroy the only home we have.

Incidents like this leave many analysts wondering: why is NASA (Noun) still being funded? NASA being defunded is only logical. After all, money spent on NASA could be spent on other, more productive causes. Also, private corporations are quickly (Adverb) replacing government agencies. Lastly, space is extremely dangerous. NASA should be defunded.
Colonizing Mars, it seems like a distant achievement. Some say impossible, some say it will happen soon. Since Elon Musk has entered this field of exploration colonization of Mars has seemed even more plausible. Still, problems have surfaced to make this much more difficult than it has to be. In conclusion, Continuing NASA and the programs run by it, is harmful to American society and Government. NASA harms the economy. NASA also harms the environment in which we live. And the money that NASA spends could be used to help solve problems in our country, not on another planet. Only if we work together, fixing our own problems first, respectfully with each other, as one body, one world, and one planet, then we will be able to reach out into space. We will be able to explore it safely, efficiently, and environmentally soundly.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower created NASA in 1958 with the purpose of peaceful rather than military space exploration and research to contribute to society. Just 11 years after the creation, NASA put Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the moon, the first humans to accomplish this feat. NASA’s research and innovation looked promising but it came at a cost. Money, resources, and spacecraft accidents most famously Apollo 13 all hindered NASA’s research. In the 21st century the debate between funding for NASA is at its peak since the birth of the organization in 1958 especially when there are numerous problems throughout the world. Is the money spent on space exploration worth the advantages and advances it contributes to society?
Mankind has always been fascinated with exploring the unknown. From sailing to distant lands to someday setting foot on other planets, the spirit of exploration is the same. Bur now with the current economic situation and the high cost of sending people to space, NASA is being looked at as a way to free up some much needed funds. The main argument against space travel is that the money used could be better put on other matters. This is, in fact, very untrue. Looking at NASA’s 2015 budget of $17.5 billion, it may seem like a lot, until you realize that the US military budget for 2014 was $581 billion (5). Furthermore, it was estimated that each dollar in NASA’s budget was equivalent to 8 – 10 dollars of economic benefit (6). If an organization can bring about economic value at 10 folds the original budget, it would be logical to continue funding it, if not increasing the funds.
Most people think that the costly downside to funding space exploration is a reason to avoid spending money on sciences and instead spend it on problems here on earth, but such funding for space exploration actually promotes economical as well as scientific benefits. Space exploration is an important expenditure for the high cost because of the potential for numerous benefits such as the possibility to find useful resources to cultivate, space exploration and satellites produce many thousands of jobs in our economy, and it creates and discovers newer and better technologies through research and development.
Space exploration is very beneficial to humankind because it creates new technologies, it brings different countries together, and gives people a better understanding of our Earth.
