Just imagine a 17 year old girl sitting on her bathroom floor. She is staring at this plastic stick that is now going to determine her choices for the rest of her life. The little plus sign causes her stomach to tense up and her throat to choke up. Who will help her? Who will pay for the food her and her baby need? Who is the father? Will she finish high-school and go to college? How will her parents react? This young girl has a choice that will have major impact on her life no matter what she decides. What if she was able to decide when and how she wanted these decisions/questions to come up? That young girl isn’t the only girl thinking about this choice; actually thousands of girls are. President- elect, Donald Trump, and Vice President- elect, Mike Pence, have stated their views on Planned Parenthood and how it should be defunded; especially Vice President elect, Mike Pence, who has a history of trying to defund Planned Parenthood. In 2007, Mike Pence introduced a bill to defund Planned Parenthood, and kept pushing for it until it passed in 2011. "If Planned Parenthood wants to be involved in providing counseling services and HIV testing, they ought not be in the business of providing abortions," Pence told Sarah Kliff in 2011. "As long as they aspire to do that, I’ll be after them." So after this troubling statements and bills, I decided to set the record straight. Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit reproductive health care organization. It’s services provide STD testing, pregnancy prevention, contraception, counseling, cancer and HIV tests, and abortions. Planned Parenthood is a well rounded health care organization for men and women. They use their resources to help you not the other way around. Planned Parenthood services are about 80 percent of their clients receive health services to prevent unintended pregnancy. Along with that, according to Planned Parenthood official website, 42% of their services prevent and deal with STDs/ STIs and 34% in contraception education and resources. Another 20% of the services are to provide pap tests to screen for cervical cancer and breast exams to detect breast cancer, and education to young people and adults through programs and outreach. Although Planned Parenthood health services do include the option for abortion only 3% of their overall amount of services are abortion
