The category four tropical storm, Hurricane Harvey, destroyed Houston, Texas late last week, becoming a major contemporary issue in the United States. Hurricane Harvey is a major concern for multiple cities because it has left people homeless, stranded, and scattered throughout the cities and states.

Recently, the issue of transgender military rights has come into play because of the ban President Trump has placed on Transgenders entering the military or people claiming to become Transgender for the military to cover their medical costs. Debates have stirred up in the last month because the ban is said to be controversial because Transgenders have been allowed to serve in the military for years, so why is there a need to suddenly to watch medical costs?

In times of need, it is important to come together as communities to set up donations for money as well as canned goods to provide families with what they have just lost. In each state, it should be mandatory to have numerous donation boxes for money and canned goods when a crisis like Hurricane Harvey comes along to provide care for people who are unable to do so for themselves at the time. Compassionate, caring, kind-hearted, and hardworking would be characteristics that a person would need to obtain if they wanted to help in the era of a crisis. It is important to be compassionate about helping people in need, instead of helping because you “feel obligated” to do so. I believe I would need to be hardworking to be able to spread the word about donation boxes or even enforce states to do so.
