We all know the growing problem of mass shooting in America. There were a total of 160 mass shootings from 2010 to 2013 alone (Perez, “FBI: Mass:). Which is defended as a shooting involving 3 or more people? With the growing problems we are turning to gun control as the method for solving this crisis, can and should for instance the shooting act at Sandy Hook School where many children and teachers died, might have been prevented by stricter gun laws. With this event fun laws including background checks would have not stopped the shooting due to the fact that the Shooter had a clean record. Now some believe that it could have been stopped if we were not able to arm to arm guns like assault rifles and explosives of military grade. Weapons …show more content…
We need to find a way to make it harder for guns to fall into the wrong hands. There are actually two sides to every problem: some want to solve by taking guns away and some think we should just make smarter gun laws. One side of the agreement believes that guns don’t kill people, people do, just like when there are car accidents the driver killed the victim not the car, and that we should not make any major law changes and the other side thinks that without guns the problem would be solved, they think that the gun is the reason why we have shooting. One of the problems is that of the last few shootings have been in gun-free zones such as schools and Government buildings. For instance, in the Sandy Hook shooting, the shooter was in a school which is a gun free zone. Now some say that with stricter gun laws this wouldn’t happen, but with if some of the teachers or employees had a gun of their own would that have helped stop the problem? Let’s face it guns free zones are proven to be more vulnerable areas for criminals to do their crimes. There will also be ways for criminals to get their hands on a gun if they want. For everything that is illegal there will be a black market such as drugs, sex and even murder. We will never be able to stop murder and other things that are illegal all we can do is help prevent it. Some …show more content…
America without guns in the citizen’s hands would be without a lot of gun violence, but criminals would find another way such as knives , cars and just random wepons to do their crimes like they always seem to do. The people that depend on funs to do their jobs or even protect their business and families would now be a big disadvantage, which doesn’t seem fair. The police and government would also have way too much power and if it fell in the hands of the wrong person the people of the country would be defenseless and greatly over powered just like Germany and modern day North Korea. It would also affect hunting and though the number is low there are still people that depend on hunting to live their everyday life. There are also people that hunt for sport and they would also loose this privilege. We all know the growing problems with mass shootings in America, we need to come together as a county and find the ways to make everyone happy, such as stricter gun laws arming our legal citizens and putting guards and metal detectors in gun free
Tragedy after tragedy, people find themselves mourning over the lives lost. And over and over again, they look back to see how they could have prevented it. People continue to argue and constantly debate what actions should be taken, and while doing so, more and more people lose their lives at the hands of gun violence. It’s clear to see that not much has been done to keep these weapons out of the wrongs hands: the shootings at Columbine High School and Virginia Tech have shown that. What would happen if there were to be another devastating shooting to occur? How would people react? Or would they just argue some more, while the wrong people can still easily get a hold of guns? The only way they can ever gain control of anything is by controlling the source of the problem, where people are able to freely purchase guns without restrictions. In order to reduce gun-related crime, unlicensed gun sellers should be required to run background checks on their customers.
There have been multiple incidents in American history alone that could have been avoided had existing gun regulation laws been enforced and monitored. Such incidents would include the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012, the 2007 Virginia Tech Shooting, the 1997 Columbine High School shooting, and a 2011 shooting involving Congresswomen Gabrielle Giffords. All these incidents were caused by a lack of funding by the federal government for expanded background checks and a loophole in the current set of laws that allows guns to be sold...
I know that gun control will never work the way it is meant to work, but I also don't have a lot of other ideas.
Imagine being able to get your hands on a gun in your community with ease when you were younger. Sounds cool right? Well, to some it might and that’s how young children are living in our communities now-a-days. Kids are able to get guns as long as they have parents with guns or the money to buy one. There aren’t enough restrictions on guns & who can get a hold of them on the streets and parents aren’t doing a well enough job of hiding their guns from their children. Something needs to be done. Too many children and young adults are being injured and murdered by something that is supposed to protect them. The ease in which youths are able to possess guns needs to be stopped. The harder it is for kids to get guns, the safer they’ll be.
With that said we should find ways to limit the wrong people from obtaining weapons to do these citizens should have to participate in a background and medical history check. Many people that are involved in mass shootings usually have a history of mental illness and sometimes the signs can be bright as day. If many people continue to remain vigilant and aware of signs of mental illness perhaps these incidents can be prevented. American citizens should also have to participate in a gun safety class along with their first purchase of a firearm. For citizens who disagree with owning a firearm, gun safety announcements should be spoken at jobs, churches, and schools in case a mass shooting situation were to ever occur. These suggestions could help save lives by showing citizens how to indicate when their lives are in danger and how to handle the situation when it
Gun violence in the United States is higher than ever, and criminals with guns will “…kill as many as 1000 people each day” (Alpers&Wilson). Taking this into perspective, it is only right to fight fire with fire or, in this case, use a gun to protect yourself and those around you. Gun control does not only decrease the ability for protection, it also decreases our rights as U.S citizens. The constitution clearly states that we are given the right to bear arms, meaning we may carry fire arms. Even if we have stricter laws for guns, it will not stop killers from shooting innocent people. These men and women causing damage to the lives of numerous individuals do not care if there is a law banning guns, because all they truly want to do is hurt others. The pain citizens endure every day from losing a family member, friend, or even just a colleague is repulsive. These permanent deaths continue to make people fearful and it causes damage in their lives; unless something is done. Most people agree that action needs to be taken to stop this inhumane cruelty, but the question is; what can be done? Americans need protection, rights, and power to break this inexcusable gun violence circling America. Gun restrictions for trustworthy and reliable gun owners have not been proven to weaken gun violence in the United States; therefore, gun control should be limited because it is only hurting America, not helping it.
Should the 2nd amendment be revoked or changed? Many Americans would say “No,” stating that guns are dangerous and times have changed. Others might argue that having the right to bear arms keeps people safe and less threated by the outside world. In this debate, both sides of the 2nd amendments constitutional rights will be argued. The upcoming presidential election has been influencing voters to revoke our 2nd amendment rights which could change the democracy on which our country was founded.
For many years, America has witnessed mass shootings within it’s borders. In 2015 alone, there were 372 mass shootings (Oldham). The question most Americans are faced with is: do we need more gun control or is gun control the problem? With more gun control, it can be made mandatory that protective devices are used on firearms to prevent accidental harm. Gun control creates mandatory laws such as the requirement for an individual to pass a background check before he/she is permitted to purchase a firearm. Gun control has also been proven to prevent suicides due to the increased difficulty of obtaining a firearm. Those who believe that gun control is the problem claim that by removing one 's firearms, you are endangering them to threats that
Violence in the United States is a major problem, but our politicians only want to focus on gun violence, and some of them believe the solution to ending gun violence is by preventing law abiding citizens from exercising their second amendment rights. Guns are easier to commit a crime with than other weapons, or without a weapon at all, but with an estimated 270 million guns the hands of citizens (11 facts), if they were the problem we would know it by now. It is undeniable that guns are responsible for a high amount of crime, but we already have tens of thousands of gun laws in the United States (How many gun laws are there?), that haven’t been able to curb gun violence. If the current laws were working, then maybe there would be a reasonable
Mass shootings have become a common occurrence in the United States society and have brought our society's safety debate to the attention of American politics. Both sides of the debate agree that we need more safety precautions but neither side can officially agree on what is to be done. What can we do about the raging number of mass shootings? There is no definite solution for mass shootings but there are precautions the United States can take to try to overcome the overwhelming number of mass shootings occurring. Gun Control is a major topic in the debate of how we can keep our society safer but how is what remains a mystery but we can start with altering the second amendment, and having stronger gun laws and background checks.
by President Reagan). This banned automatic weapons with magazines for 10 years but that expired in 2004 and was never put back into action(Gun Control Laws). Though many attempts of gun control have failed there is even more of a push for a reform now. The National Rifle Association (NRA) is a major foundation that supports the second amendment and has a lot of pull when it comes to political parties. The NRA is wealthy and has overturn and won many cases against guns. According to Megan Cassella “Fifty percent of those surveyed said they supported Obama 's executive actions”(Cassella). Almost all that were supporting the democratic party supported this idea of tightening gun laws, while nearly seventy-two percent of republicans opposed stricter gun laws. There is .
“How many have to die before we will give up these dangerous toys?” (Stephen King). Firearms have been out of control over the past decade and has been the cause of most deaths in massacre shootings. The controversy about gun control has escalated throughout the years. Gun control laws will affect people for the better. I will be giving you a different understanding that has the potential to change the tone of the national debate. The government should pass gun laws because guns do not provide protection, they only harm people. Guns are harmful to society overall.
Within the past decade, gun control has become a major topic of discussion in the United States because of all the devastating mass shootings. They have come in multiple different settings, such as churches, schools, governmental buildings, and even movie theatres. Due to these shootings, many people’s response is that we need to crack down on gun control in order to take the weapons out of the killer’s hands, but the fact of the matter is that in some of the cases where many people are killed in shootings, the guy who killed them obtained the gun they used illegally. So us citizens need to realize that no matter what laws are passed or what efforts we make, the “bad” guys are going to get guns regardless, so we might as well allow our own
Growing up in Brooklyn, NY I keenly became aware that in my own neighborhood there were educational disparities, street violence, and police brutality. Due to the widespread presence of these issues while walking home from school or going grocery shopping with my mother, I also learned there was internal conflict between the people that lived in the community and those who were appointed to represent them- the congressional representative of my district. My premature awareness of these issues caused me to question who had the ability to solve the problems of my community? I discovered that the television show “Law and Order” offered a possible answer. As the youngest child of my household, my older siblings affinity for the show naturally steered
I believe that there are a few solutions that can be used to solve this problem at both a community and national level. The first course of action is to establish a national system for registering guns and ammunition. Anyone can obtain a gun by going to a state with less restrictive laws or by getting a friend who lives in the state to buy the guns for them. A national system would prevent this by scaring those "friends" into not buying the guns legally and selling them illegally, for if the guns are used in an illegal crime, that person can be held accountable. Secondly, a national system would be more helpful in tracking crimes after they have happened, to bring the perpetrators to justice.
