Persuasive Essay On Gun Control

“If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns,” is a slogan used by gun owners and their supporters. This topic was discussed at a meeting here in the United States according to the group, the Right to Keep the Bear Arms, based in Bellevue, Washington. Most gun loving Americans would tend to agree with that statement, which, based on the current rhetoric coming out of Washington D.C., may become a reality in the lifetime of today’s teens. If Americans have not been keeping up with the news lately then they might be surprised to know that gun rights are, for a lack of better term, are under fire. Although, on almost a daily basis, there seems to be news stories about shootings and killing’s throughout America by criminals and people with mental issues, it seems that only law abiding gun owners are going to suffer the most by any new gun restricting laws that may be passed by lawmakers in the United States. Excessive gun control would take away the rights of law abiding citizens to protect themselves and their property. It could also effect the recreational use of guns, and would not keep guns from criminals. Taking guns away from people would make it harder for them to protect themselves and their property. If an intruder was to come into a person’s home, and if guns were outlawed due to excessive gun control, then that person would have to protect themselves by some other means. Overt gun control could put a person’s life and their property in danger. However, because of the Second Amendment found in the Bill of Rights, a U.S. Citizen has the right to own and bear arms. It seems the government would just dig themselves in a hole if they were to try to remove that amendment. They would have to deal with Congress and all the pe... ... middle of paper ... ...as, the guns used for hunting. Also, gun control will not take away guns from the criminals within the United States. Criminals already disregard current guns laws, just as they would new ones because they are criminals. In addition to that, too much gun control would increase the stress already felt by police who have the inability to be everywhere all the time. When law abiding citizens are armed, it is a help to the police and the citizens that are around them. The people can only do this if the have the rights to have a gun and also have the right to carry a gun around with the proper gun license. In conclusion, while the United States legislative branches debate over the future of gun control, all law abiding citizens should take comfort in the fact that the United States too have a powerful voice when it comes to gun control and that is with the peoples vote.
