Killing someone is ok when it’s not murder. Euthanasia is having a doctor assist in killing a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease or irreversible coma. It comes from the Greek words eu meaning well and thanatos meaning death. Currently this practice is illegal in most countries. However many doctors have different viewpoints whether this should be legal or not. Legalizing euthanasia gives terminally ill patients the option to end their suffering, gives them a right to die with dignity, and have the right to die based on their beliefs. Many people that have incurable diseases suffer a great deal of pain, wishing the pain would go disappear and euthanasia would give them this opportunity to end their suffering. In early 2014 Brittany Maynard was diagnosed with brain cancer and after hearing how the rest of her life would play out with brain cancer she got up and moved to Oregon. Oregon is one of the five states that has the Die with Dignity Law. The law allows doctors to prescribe drugs to end someone’s life peacefully and painlessly without prosecution. At the age of 13 he started talking about wanting to die with what dignity he had left. Since euthanasia was illegal he tried to commit suicide twice and was stopped both times.
