Recommended: Dangers of alcohol essay

Statistics show that “more than 190,000 people under age 21 visited an emergency room for alcohol-related injuries in 2008 alone” (National Institute and Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism). Teens are around to alcohol today because of social media, parenting, genetics, peer pressure, and much more. To cut this number down the government needs to regulate alcohol more closely, when related to teens. Despite the belief that alcohol is controlled in the youth, alcohol abuse is a big problem in teens today, and it should be more heavily regulated by the government, to keep teens alive, safe, and in a mentally good state. Advertising and social media have conveyed alcohol to be purely fun with no risks, such as death, safety, and much more. Sadly, this is not always the case. Research has shown that if a child is used to being around alcohol, they are more likely to drink at a younger age. “students whose parents allowed them to drink at home and/or provided them with alcohol experienced the steepest escalation in drinking” (National Institute and Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism). In other words, teens allowed to drink at a young age are more likely to when they are older. Opposite of, if parents are strict on rules regarding alcohol, teens are less likely to drink at an older age. Alcoholism in teens is not only related to exposure in a household, it is also related to genetics, “Some personality traits are genetic, and those, like impulsivity, can put a person at risk for problem drinking” (National Institute and Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism). Also, a parent with a drinking problem can increase the child's risk for alcoholism in the future. Although, this problem is hard to solve it is solvable.
