“I dare you not to eat meat for a week.”
It started off as a dare, but it ended up as a lifestyle choice. Being a vegetarian for 3 years has been the best decision of my life due to all the health benefits that I have gained personally. It seemed that all it took was one week of not eating meat simply caused by a dare. Thus, this is why I chose to discuss the benefits of vegetarianism and why people should consider going vegetarian. In the “Vegetarianism in America” study, it states that “there are 7.3 million people that follow a vegetarian-based diet. Approximately 1 million of those are vegans, those who consume no animal products at all (Vegetarian Times)”. It has been shown, in numerous studies, that vegetarianism have several benefits, like cancer prevention,weight loss, decrease in global warming and so on. …show more content…

Animals are beaten, abused, often packed together in tiny cages, and are suffering for almost all of their lifetime. Chickens are pumped with hormones in order to make their breasts, thighs, and wings bigger that even their legs cannot support them anymore (Vegecated). The documentary Vegecated is an interesting look into the world of processed, industrial farming. I am completely aware of why the United States was forced to compete against each other in order to have food for a growing population. However, animals are treated like machines and the entire process to get meat had been expedited to account for the many people living in America and the want for a cheaper price. I was horrified when I learned that agricultural animals are not covered under the Animal Welfare Act and the laws that are supposed to protect farm animals is not enforced, therefore animals are helpless and they suffer.
