Personality traits and career success have become intertwined through research and job performance. By taking personality assessments, an individual is more equipped with understanding one’s own traits which will in turn provide tools for success in the work place and personal life. The author within this article combs through personality tests and assessment results with the main objective of bettering his understanding of himself. Working within prison walls ten hours a day can at times feel as if I am also doing time. After completing the personality assessment it was discovered that I am motivated when I find joy in what I am doing. “Motivation is defined as intrinsic when the individual engages in some activity mainly for its own sake, for example, because it is enjoyable, satisfying or interesting” (Kreitler, Casakin, 2009, Pg. 283). Having quality and strong communication skills can allow for desired outcome in almost every situation. After taking the assessment, I discovered that I scored highly in communication. Out of a total of 47 points for communication skill, I scored 45 total points. Although this was not a surprise, it has become a reinforcement in knowing my strengths and having a better grasp on where I should and should not focus improvement. Leadership and Team Skills: Leadership and team skills are qualities where I can improve. Although the assessment demonstrated that I am prepared to be a leader, I know that this area can use improvement. Being an introvert and typically only focusing on what is important to me, can be a challenge when put into a leadership role. Understanding why people do what they do has baffled people for centuries. The Myers-Briggs Personality test has answer a few of these questions. Are you an Extrovert or an Introvert, Sensor or iNtuitive, a Thinker or a Feeler, a Judger or Perceiver? Once you have the tools to understand yourself, you are capable of understanding others. The Myers and Briggs personality test is unlike many of the personality tests you will find randomly online because it was designed to examine the ways in which you focus on the world and make everyday decisions. After taking this test myself I have found out a few things about myself that I did not really notice before. According to the Myers-Briggs test my personality type is INFP, which stands for Introversion, iNtuition, Feeling, and Perceiving. At the start of this test I had no idea that I was considered an introvert because as far as I can remember I have always loved being around people and never really thought about things before acting, which is the exact personality of an extrovert. The Big Five Personality Test provided an interesting account of my personality. Although the majority of the results were accurate, I was surprised by two of the outcomes. According to this test, I am a closed-minded, unmethodical, social butterfly that is well-mannered towards others and composed under pressure (John, 2009). First, the results were completely accurate as I am extremely extroverted. I never meet a stranger, and I carry on conversations with anyone. From the custodian, to the cashier, to a random person on the street, it gives me a great sense of fulfillment to engage in dialogue with others from all walks of life. The purpose of this analysis is to identify my personality type, temperament, and how it relates to my behavior and success in the workplace. The first phase of this paper is to identify my four letter personality type using the Jung Typology Test which is based on Carl Jung’s and Isabel Briggs Myers personality type theory (Jung Typology Test, 2016). I will also discuss where I fall within Keirsey’s Temperaments; this personality typing combines two of the four sets of preferences in to four distinct temperament categories (Personalitypage, 2015a). Keirsey identified four basic temperaments known as Guardian, Rational, Artisan, and Idealist (Keirsey, n.d.). I will explain each of the four letters of my type and provide specific examples of how they relate to me in both a professional and personal level. In the final phase I will discuss my personality strengths and weaknesses and how I can use the assessment for overall personal growth.
The goal of the personality assessments was to provide a better understanding of all of the individuals. Prior research indicated that certain personality types are best matched with certain tasks. Although some would argue that their results are nowhere near correct, I would say that mine were, for the most part, spot on. This essay will explore both negative and positive ways in which personality can predict the performance, as well as explaining what personality is. Personality tests tell a person a lot about why a person is who they have become. I believe that these test if taken truthfully can identify deficiencies that individuals can work on to benefit not only themselves but others in the organizations that they work in. Some models state that it is in human nature and chemicals that decided how a person acts but I believe it is based on life experiences and a personality can change as long as a person knows the deficiencies and works to change them.

According to the study of this course, I have learned many useful management skills and I feel like these skills will be applied to my future career development. When working on the self- assessment tests, I found myself fall into the category of the ISTJ personality types, which as illustrated by Myers Briggs, is the type of personality that is conscientious, considerate, and helpful. Personality traits such as honest, dutiful, practical and responsible are my strengths; personality traits such as stubborn, insensitive and poor communication skill are my weaknesses. Related to the knowledge I have learned in the course I believe both strengths and weakness will have influence to my future career development. In this reflection paper, I will demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses that may place the most influence on my way of success.
