Personality traits and career success have become intertwined through research and job performance. By taking personality assessments, an individual is more equipped with understanding one’s own traits which will in turn provide tools for success in the work place and personal life. The author within this article combs through personality tests and assessment results with the main objective of bettering his understanding of himself. By reviewing and analyzing personality strengths and weaknesses, an individual may become better equipped for success in the work place and in one’s own personal life.

Working within prison walls ten hours a day can at times feel as if I am also doing time. After completing the personality assessment it was discovered that I am motivated when I find joy in what I am doing. “Motivation is defined as intrinsic when the individual engages in some activity mainly for its own sake, for example, because it is enjoyable, satisfying or interesting” (Kreitler, Casakin, 2009, Pg. 283). By taking the assessment as well as the personality test, my decision on searching for new employment has been confirmed. Having quality and strong communication skills can allow for desired outcome in almost every situation. After taking the assessment, I discovered that I scored highly in communication. Out of a total of 47 points for communication skill, I scored 45 total points. Although this was not a surprise, it has become a reinforcement in knowing my strengths and having a better grasp on where I should and should not focus improvement. Leadership and Team Skills: Leadership and team skills are qualities where I can improve. Although the assessment demonstrated that I am prepared to be a leader, I know that this area can use improvement. Being an introvert and typically only focusing on what is important to me, can be a challenge when put into a leadership role.
