There are many reasons I was accepted into the University of Michigan, but the obstacles were of greatest importance. It took me quite a while to discover I was poor, fourteen years to be exact, and I was just starting to learn how education was the best way out. My sister and I were raised by a single mother who was always working. We had no one to tell us what to do or where to go. The main focus in our eyes was to do well in school, because it was the only place we received appraisal and guidance. Overall my life has been hard, yet these setbacks have helped me in ways unnoticed by the average person. With so many obstacles and a lack of guidance many would assume there would be no success in my life. Yet living a life of poverty
