I groaned as I looked over at the clock on my nightstand and laid my head back down on my pillow, which was entirely too inviting. The urge to fall back asleep was alluring, but I knew I had an Astronomy Assignment to complete. I kicked my legs over the side of my bed, taking a deep breath and giving myself a mental pep-talk as I forced my body to follow. This was my own fault for having procrastinated the assignment that could have been done at sunset, right before dinner, the night before. Instead of giving up a few minutes of my evening, I was now having to drag myself to the Astronomy tower before the hour of six, when I should be still sleeping, to view the elusive planet that lies closest to the sun, Mercury.

I picked a sturdy looking telescope within the open and lonely observation room, high up in the tower. I pointed it in the correct direction, but was momentarily distraught to find a bank of clouds, preventing my telescope from being able to observe outside of the Earth’s own atmosphere. Clearly, I should have considered doing this the night before if I had the forethought to check the weather! But seeing as how the assignment was due today, I had very little choice but to wait for the clouds to pass, and hope to get a long enough break between the clouds to get a proper view of Mercury. Surely there was a spell to help encourage favourable weather. As I looked back to the skies, I could see the crescent sliver of the waxing quarter moon shining dimly in the ever lightening morning skies. Alright, I had found the planet. Although I knew the comparisons to our own Moon from the textbook and lecture in class, I was still startled at just how alike the two were!
