Personal Narrative: My Sister

My older sister is on her way to James Madison University next fall to start her journey of becoming a college student. But, it was not always an easy road for her. My sister has Dyslexia, and she's been battling it her whole life. She wanted to prove everyone wrong, and she did just that.
From a very young age my sister struggled, when my mom would try to teach her to count or read she would mix up the letters or numbers, but my mom encouraged her to keep trying and not to give up. In elementary school my sister had a Special Education teacher who instead of motivating and giving her positive reinforcement, she would scold her for mixing up D’s and B’s. The teacher told my sister that she would yell at her because it was easy to. My sister was so nervous to come to school, because she was constantly put down by someone who was supposed to help her. teacher Mrs. Venezuela. She motivated my sister instead of bringing her down. My sister slowly began improving, and before you knew it my sister was reading at her grade level. It was a lot of work for her and my mom but, it payed off. My sister also started playing the Violin in the fourth grade. My sister has always been very artistic and it makes sense, because it is very common for people with Dyslexia to be that way. The Violin helped my sister feel confident.
