My Reading Journey
A huge part of life is being able to understand literacy. There are many ways that people can be taught how to read. School happens to be the biggest influence for students, and children to learn how to read. It can be anything from learning how to read books, magazines, or a simple sentence. Many students are taught how to read from his or her peers. When I was younger, I learned how to read in kindergarten. Throughout my education, my reading level has increased. I personally have had many challenges when it comes to reading. Most of my reading challenges have come from not being able to concentrate or make connections within the story line. I found a passion for all the pictures, colors, and even the 3-D object books. At this age, anything colorful caught my eye and I was immediately engaged. My mom would always say “put a book with something colorful and you’ll get her attention”. One of my earliest childhood memories of reading was when I first read the book Five Little Monkey’s Jumping on the Bed by Eileen Christelow. I remember sitting on my mom’s lap and rocking as she read to me with great expression. I loved this book and enjoyed every time that we would read this book together. Another book that I enjoyed when I was young was If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff. I always enjoyed when my older sister read this book to me, because we would read it over and over and giggle each time. This is the age when I was interested in books the most, it seemed like it was easier to grab my attention and easier for me to get
