My Reading Autobiography

Although I can not remember my first book, or when I started to read, I do know that I have loved to read for most of my life. When I was younger every morning, whether it was a school day or the weekend, I would get up early get ready grab any book from the grand white bookshelf and then just plop on the brown leather couch and read until we had to leave. I remember scanning the big white book shelf filled with treasured stories. Some about The House that Jack Built, and about King Bidgood’s in the Bathtub.

Eventually I found a book called Side by Side: poems to read together. Usually I didn’t keep books in my bedroom because I didn’t read in there, but this book I kept in my room and read over and over again almost every night. I loved reading poetry because I loved how the author told the story but delivered it in a different way. Since then I found a love for reading poetry. Another book that I kept in my room and read at night was A Girl’s Book. It included stories, poetry, activities, recipes, heroines, and facts & fun. It was not a book to just read through, because it was filled with so much to learn so each time I read it I learned more. …show more content…

Towards the end of fifth grade, I had finished reading all the books in the classroom. That was the first time I couldn’t find something to read. There was nothing that interested me. I was stuck. The reason may be that when I was younger, it was easier for me to like all kinds of books because I was still exploring them so anything seemed interesting. But as I grew older I became more selective and my preferences were more specific so it became harder for me to find books that I personally enjoyed.
