Personal Narrative: My Personal Values

When trying to describe who I am and what I want to become, it is easiest to list values that reflect the person I am. My values can be reflected by the person I would be if I had an unlimited amount of resources and time. If that was the case, I would want to be a stay at home mother to my daughter who will be here in February. I would want to live on a large farm with lots of cattle and horses to take care of and be able to afford to go on vacations whenever I wanted. The reason I would want this is having a large farm would allow me to teach my daughter and future children all about responsibilities and the importance of animals, like my grandfather and father did with me. I would want to be able to spend time each day with my family and going on vacations with them. Every year, my husband and I go to the beach with his family and bring my little sister. Most of my values reflect upon my family. My values include christianity, family, truth, justice, and courage. The value that I hope reflects me the most is Christianity. Dr. Bill Blevins gave the best speech on courage that I have heard saying that courage can be categorized in multiple categories. The category that I think of as being the typical form of courage is the physical aspect. When I think of courage, I think of soldiers who have the courage to go into battle, knowing they may die, just because they want a better and safer life for their family at home. When I think of social courage, I think of students who say no to peer pressure, which could lead to the loss of friendships. Spiritual courage is having the courage to tell someone you care about that what they are doing is wrong and they need to change their behavior.
