Personal Narrative: Moving To Texas

Home is not necessarily a place, but it is safety and comfort. Many young people think that living away from home is the best part of their lives because they will have more freedom, but they don’t realize that living at home might be more beneficial. There are many reasons they make these decisions. Some of their reasons might be because they want to support themselves or be independent. Even if they reach a different place of opportunities where they can prosper, it really isn’t home but a strange place. I made the decision of moving to Texas in the summer of 2013. I was waiting to board the plane; the flight was at six in the morning. While on the plane, I could hear the attendant giving us instructions of safety. I wasn’t paying much attention. My mind was not focused on the flight. I just stared out the window. The flight was going to make a connection in Charlotte, North Carolina, and then, I would make the flight to Houston. It was a long and tiring trip. I was so exhausted and sleepy. When I arrived in Houston, my aunt and cousin were waiting for me. I was lucky to have relatives here in Houston; otherwise, I would have had a hard time finding a safe place. I called my family to let them know that I had arrived safely. The next day, my second day in Houston, I felt very strange. I felt that something was missing, something I needed. I realized that I needed my family. I wanted to have them close and give me the strength to get ahead. I remember calling them and telling them how I felt at the time. They gave me lots of advice and to fight for my dreams. I didn’t know how to start my new life. I didn’t have my friends around. I didn’t know anyone here in Houston.
