I believe in pulling the trigger. A series of unfortunate events can alter your perception of life and the living that haunt it. Neighborhoods get worse and worse and people grow into dark entities that are unrecognizable even to themselves. The worst of situations can bloom a rose into a garden. Growing up as a young child in Oakland and Compton really took a toll on me. Daily gang violence, robberies, drive-bys, murders, suicides, etc. The crippling effect of experiencing these horrific events has a great impact on one’s mindset. A one sided view of the world develops and grows as you see more and more of these societies getting worse. I never saw the world as kind and warm-hearted. Deprived cities alters your life perception and the way you see people. The constant watching over my shoulder and scoping innocent citizens becomes very exhausting but remains extremely necessary to ensure survival. Like a leech, that gang followed me wherever I want and everyone knew that I was with them and never dared to talk to me. Gangs have colors and wear almost the exact same thing, so when two gangs have issues, everyone from the rivalry fits the description of the “murderer.” I happened to be wearing the same colors and clothing as one of my peers. That peer had performed a drive-by shooting and killed many of the rival gang members. They decided revenge was their best tactic. In attempt to seek vengeance, the gang came after us and thought I was the shooter. One enemy was sent after me with rage and anger that filled his blood and consumed his soul.
