Throughout my life, I always pushed myself to be the best. Growing up, I focused on athletics because the academic side came easily. Now, in high school, I have to work much harder to achieve success in both academics and athletics. Having practice every night takes its toll on my body and mind. I get home late after a meet or match and push myself to finish my homework even though I am tired. Going through this experience has forced me to be efficient and have great time management skills.
Because of my success in athletics, I feel the expectations of being in the spotlight at matches and meets to be an inspiration to young student-athletes. As I break records and win awards, I know that I am seen as a role model for these young people. I strive to be a positive influence in their lives. Every year for track, I set a goal in the beginning of the season for a new personal best. The number I choose may seem unrealistic to some, but if I work hard enough, nothing will stop me from soaring past my goals. In academics, I don't set personal record goals, but I set goals that allow me to do my best to hopefully get straight As or as close as can be. One important characteristic that I have is passion. I strive to put my heart into everything I do. I have felt passion especially during competition in the athletics in which I chose to participate. I believe there is no better feeling than that of all of my hard work paying off, allowing me to set new school records, and qualifying for state in multiple sports. I am passionate in my school work, too. Without passion, I believe my grades would suffer and school would not be enjoyable.
