Protests, civil disobedience, boycotts, economic and political noncooperation, and satyagraha; these are all common forms of peaceful resistance which has a dominantly negative impact on society since they are dangerous, they hurt business, and they are unnecessary.. Although peaceful resistance begins with the intentions of being nonviolent, several types of resistance can become violent. For instance, street protests are generally peaceful or nonviolent until police get involved. Then, tear gas, shields, tasers, and batons come out, threatening the general public. Without it, the American people would be a society of generic products enslaved by monopolies. Peaceful resistance, especially in the form of physical protest and boycotts, is especially harmful to local business. In spite of the fact that they are peaceful, literal physical protests can take up entire blocks at a time. A crowd of yelling, marching people would make it quite difficult to keep the business thriving. Ongoing protests, such as the current marches against Trump’s election, force the businesses to struggle as long as the protest may continue. In addition, though peaceful resistance is technically peaceful, in the form of protest, it could cause unnecessary property damage that are costly to small business. It would not be intentional, simply an accident caused by such an abundance of people concentrated into one area. Boycotting also harms business because it could avoid a certain product or service that could be a chief product of small business. This would only raise the cost and worsen the issue. This would be the sort of occurrence as in the colonial tea boycott or in boycotts during the Civil Rights Movement. Businesses were simply doing what they needed to under the law in order to make a profit and remain afloat.
