Do you ever imagine you and your family in a perilous country like Kabul,? The Breadwinner is set during the rule of the Taliban who hold a restrictive and oppressive view of Islam. In the novel, many Afghans struggle to maintain their human dignity and keep a hopeful posture about their dire situation and future. Do you ever think of yourself struggling to live in a cruel town with war and brutality And many traumatizing things to see? But if that’s true then you should probably look at Parvana's life and examine how it goes in the book, the theme is on struggling. My first reason the theme is struggling is about Parvana’s father being apprehended and seeing how’s he’s the only male in the family, without him Parvana’s family aren’t sanctioned to go outside and shop for victuals as they require a male escort to go with them as it’s the law in Kabul, this designates they are put in a state of struggle as they didn’t know what to do and chances are in a few days most of their food and water resources will go slim. Additionally, on page 31 it says “Parvana watched as two soldiers dragged father down the steps.” And this proves my theme because this is a moment in Parvana’s life where she loses a family member for a long time and because of this they can’t go outside without a male escort so they can’t buy resources …show more content…

My second reason the theme is struggling is that after the incident of father getting apprehended Mother, falls into a deep depression as she does not respond to Parvana or anyone else she just cries on the spot where father would sleep and on page 51 it says “Mother there's no food left” and this proves my theme because it’s about how Parvana's family has run out of food and since they don’t know what to do and it counts as
